Mangaluru, Feb 17: Speakers at the Popular Front Day held today at Nehru Maidan in the heart of this coastal city took on the union government for what many of them termed “saffronization of the ‘system’ and massacre of the democracy in the country.

The event was organised to mark the decennial celebration of the Popular Front of India. Thousands of people, a majority of them youth, took part in the programme. A ‘unity march’ was also held ahead of the stage programme.

Delivering the keynote address, KM Shareef, former national president of PFI, urged the people to wake up before the judiciary is completely saffronized. “The saffronization of judiciary has already started. It is time for you to wake up and stop it,” he said.

He said that since its inception PFI fought for the rights of oppressed classes including dalits and minorities and will continue its effort to bring a social revolution in the country against all odds. He said that his organization indents to weed out communalism and fascism from the country.

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to become a dictator, Mr Shareef said that the former has mocked all the values practiced by the father of the nation.

Dubbing BJP’s slogans of ‘nationalism’ as fake, he said that Mr Modi hailed from an organisation which seldom showed any respect to the national anthem or national flag in the past.

Recalling the birth of PFI following an empowerment rally organised at?Palace Grounds in Bengaluru in 1997, Shareef said they had vowed to build a society with equal freedom and justice to all, without compromising with anybody.

The influence of communalism has been far-reaching beginning from pre-independence era. It gained pace from 1993 with attempts being made to saffronise the citadel of the society that includes legislative and judiciary, he observed.

Shareef also fulminated demonetisation of high-value currency notes in the name of fight against black money.?It has eventually overburdened common people, he criticised.

Social activist Yogesh Master complimented the cadre for keeping the spirit of movement alive, despite of change in venue of the programme from?Ullal to Nehru Ground.

Human Rights activist Abdul Majeed Qasimi, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) state president Abdul Hannan, Samaja Parivartana Vedike president Dheeman Deekayya, PFI state secretary Ibrahim Majeed Thumbay, Muslim Central Committee?(Dakshina Kannada district) vice president Haji Hameed Kandak and other leaders were among those present on the occasion.

Very disciplined and impressive March.

Even though the permission was denied at Ullal in the last movement, the organizers did not bend and took permission at the heart of the city and made the program huge success.

Truly, appreciated your efforts.

What narendra said 90% correct. Same people will go every where and 50% crowd comes from kerala .I joined Pfi in 2008 and left within 2009.reason is simple .leaders are not capable to address real issues .empowerment is not baNd set movement .community must concentrate on uplifting up education level in our community and have community development plan .not on communal lines .you people are directly targeting rss and pm .it's unfair .even though Christian organisations don't like rss. They never indulge in direct confrontation. When u get into direct confrontation then real problem arise. Innocents will suffer with this type of act sir .no educated will support this type of movement which drives people towards extremism. I suggest boys participating is fine .but be careful about after affects .funders are based outside and Innocents suffer .shafi Bella re is the best example of brain wash .instead of this ..give importance for jobs and education in our community .when sdpi met Kumar swamiji it shows how immaturely we are handling.

Kasaragod, Mar 31: Two more Kasaragod natives lost their lives on Monday due to blockade of the interstate border by Karnataka police in the wake of outbreak of novel coronavirus.

They could not get emergency health care as the Karnataka police stopped the ambulance carrying them to a hospital in Mangaluru at the border.

Another critically-ill person, who was sent back by Manguluru hospital authorities on March 23 for being a Kasaragod native, also died on Monday.

This is the fifth such case in many days.

The deceased are Madhavan, 50, Ayesha, 55 and Aziz Haji, 61 respectively.

All three of them lived near the Karnataka border.

Madhavan, who hailed from Thummanattu in Manjeswaram, died enroute to Kanhangad hospital after being denied entry to cross over to Karnataka. He had an acute bronchial attack.

Udyavar native Ayesha, an asthma patient, was referred to the Mangaluru Hospital by the hospital authorities at Uppali. When the authorities stopped her at the border, she was taken to the Kanhangad hospital. However, she died before reaching the hospital.

Aziz Haji, from Nayabazar Cherugoli MA Cottage at Uppala, was allegedly refused entry into a Manguluru Hospital on March 23 on account of being a Kasaragod native. Haji was a dialysis patient at the hospital. “We were unable to contact his doctor at the time,” his relatives said. Haji, who was on the ventilator, lost his life Monday morning.

One more from Kerala dies as Karnataka police stop ambulance at border
Kunjathoor native Abdul Hameed and Bandwal native Fathima also lost their lives due to the closing of the interstate border.

The district authorities has appealed to the Government to intervene in the matter and influence Karnataka as to lift a ban in crossing over for ambulances carrying critical patients.

The people of Kasaragod are largely dependent on the medical facilities in Mangaluru for critical illness care.

The Kasaragod MP, Rajmohan Unnithan has said he would move the Supreme court against this.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has already taken up the issue with the Centre.

Kerala HC takes up issue with Karnataka AAG

The Kerala High Court on Monday sought the views of the Advocate General of Karnataka on the issue of the government of the neighbouring state blocking its borders with Kerala.

Considering a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Kerala High Court Advocates Association, seeking a direction for opening the roads, a bench comprising Justices A K Jayasankaran Nambiar and Shaji P Chali requested the Advocate General of Karnataka to join the hearing at 11 am on Tuesday through video conferencing.

The Court orally observed that the blockades erecting embankments on the inter-state roads would affect the people's right to life.

The Karnataka government blocked the state highway with to prevent movement of vehicles carrying essential goods and people seeking emergency treatment at hospitals in the city of Mangalore bordering Kasaragod.

With 97 infected patients, Kasaragod has the largest number of COVID-19 cases in Kerala. 7,437 people are under observation in the district.

Bengaluru, June 19: Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa''s home-office in the city centre was shut for sanitisation after the husband of a woman employee working there tested COVID-19 positive, an official said on Friday.

"The chief minister''s home-office has been closed for sanitisation after the employee''s husband tested positive for coronavirus," an official of the Chief Minister''s Office told media persons here.

The employee did not report for duty for two days after her husband was infected with the virus.

"The chief minister''s engagements, including an official event involving the state police department were shifted to the Vidhana Soudha (state secretariat)," said the official.

As the employee was on outpost duty, she did not come in contact with the Chief Minister or his cabinet colleagues and other senior officials.

Earlier in the day, the divisional railway manager''s office in the city centre was shut for sanitisation after a visiting employee tested positive for coronavirus.

"The three-floor DRM office has been closed for the day for santisation and all employees have been advised to work from home as one of our staffer who visited the office early this week tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday," senior Divisional Commercial Manager Krishna Reddy told media persons here.

The DRM''s office is located adjacent to the Krantivira Sangoli Rayanna (KSR) main railway station in the city centre.

The state''s mini secretariat Vikas Soudha adjacent to the iconic Vidhana Soudha in the city centre has also been shut for sanitisation after a government employee working in it tested COVID positive.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), entrusted with the task of containing the virus spread, has already sanitised a portion of the massive building in the city centre.

After an employee of the food and civil supplies department tested positive, all offices on the ground floor of the mini-secretariat were sealed and sanitised.

The city registered 17 fresh cases on Thursday, taking the total number of positive cases to 844. With 14 discharged earlier in the day, 384 have been cured of the infection, while 408 are under treatment.

Of the 114 COVID deaths across the southern state since March 10, Bengaluru has accounted for 51 till date.

Riyadh, June 24: Thousands of expatriates who managed to return to their home countries from Saudi Arabia during covid-19 lockdown are now in a dilemma as the Kingdom has clarified that it will not allow their re-entry till the end of the corona crisis.

The Directorate General of Passports (Jawazat) announced on Tuesday that the mechanism to resume extension of the exit and re-entry visas for expatriates who are outside the Kingdom will be announced only after the end of the pandemic crisis.

The Jawazat stated this on its Twitter account while responding to queries from a number of expatriates who are currently outside the Kingdom and whose exit and re-entry visas have expired.

They inquired about the possibility of returning to the Kingdom after the resumption of international flight service.

The Jawazat reiterated that the return of expatriates who left Saudi Arabia will be only after the end of the pandemic and in accordance with the process to obtain a valid re-entry visa.

The directorate said that in the event of any new decisions or instructions in this regard, they will be announced through the official channels.

It is noteworthy that the Jawazat had previously confirmed that its electronic services are continuing through the Absher and Muqeem online portals of the Ministry of Interior and that the service for messages and requests is still available and continuing through Absher for all the beneficiaries of its services.
