Mangaluru: Cops nab 6 near beach, thwart murder and robbery plots

Mangaluru, Feb 19: The city crime branch of Mangaluru city police is claimed to have thwarted a murder and robbery plot by arresting six men after intercepting two vehicles near Tannirbhavi beach on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.

The arrested have been identified as Safwan Hussain (33), Mohammed Faisal Ibrahim Sheik (33) and Shamshuddin (27), all residents of Surathkal, Abdul Naseer alias Don Naseer (34) from Yemmekere, Umar Farooq alias Mana Farooq (25) and Mohammed Ansar (30), both from Ullal.

K M Shantharaju, deputy commissioner of police, told media persons here on Sunday that acting on a credible information the sleuths of CCB intercepted the Swift car and an auto-rickshaw on Tannirbhavi beach road and nabbed the six suspects.

He said that the arrested had plotted to kill a person for ‘supari’ and rob the houses of a few effluent persons in the city. Two pistols, seven live bullets, two knives and three mobile phones were sized from the miscreants along with the car and the auto-rickshaw in the operation, he said.

The accused and the materials seized from them have been handed over to the Panambur police for further investigation, the DCP said, adding that the arrested were wanted in many other criminal cases too.

Among the arrested, Safwan Hussain is already facing 23 charges including murder, attempt-to-murder, abduction, theft and assault on police. He had been arrested, booked under Goonda Act and jailed in the past, bunt managed to obtain bail two months ago.

Abdul Naseer, Mohammed Faisal and Umar Farooq are facing nine, eight and three criminal cases respectively in various police stations, while Mohammed Ansar was about to enter the crime world, the police said.

Police arrested these people outside mangalore court, they came to attend case in court after they finished with the court they were arrested by police , they didnt have any weapon with dem.

Bengaluru, Apr 22:  Karnataka Women and Child Welfare Department has warned of action against those raising funds for Covid relief works, by using photos of children.

In a release here on Wednesday, the department said that several non-governmental organisations and voluntary groups were using the photographs of children to collect donations.

It has come to notice that several NGOs are using photos of children to raise donations to meet their food, health and other expenditure during the lockdown. However, this is against the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act," the Director of the ICDS scheme stated in a release.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: The civic body in Bengaluru has said that gathering at marriage functions should not exceed 100 people in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.

A circular issued by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) dated March 15 said, "All marriage functions pre booked in marriage halls, hotels, Party places, etc. prior to the issue of circular dated March 13, shall be allowed to be conducted subject to the condition that the gathering in the function not exceeding 100 persons."

"The above relaxation is an exception in consideration of the difficulties in rescheduling and cancelling the Marriage event immediately," the circular said.

It said, "The Owners/Management of such locations where Marriages are to be solemnized due to pre booking shall maintain high standards of sanitation and hygiene by periodically cleaning by 10 per cent Sodium Hydrochlorite Solution or any other effective disinfectant the surfaces, floors and exposed areas likely to be touched by the attendants."

"Any person attending the function having any such symptoms like Cough, Cold, and Fever etc. shall be requested for immediately leaving the Programmes," it said.

The civic body further said in the circular, "No fresh bookings of any place for Marriage programme are permitted till further orders. Any bookings on future dates by any organizer, event manager, owner of such property or any other person will be at his own risk and action will be taken against the property or any other person for any kind of bookings before an Order allowing such bookings is issued by a Competent Authority."

"The restrictions imposed are in the absolute interest of Public Health for preventing the Community Spread and outbreak of the disease at mass scale. All other restrictions imposed by order dated March 13 shall stand the same," the Circular added.

Bengaluru, Jun 15: As the central government has not allowed reopening of gyms in the country amid COVID-19 pandemic, many gymnasiums in Bengaluru are on the verge of closing or sale.

Rakshith Gowda, a gym owner and secretary of gym owners association told ANI that they are not even able to pay rent of the premises which is Rs 60,000 to 1 lakh per month.

"The condition of the owners of the gym have worsened. We have to pay a minimum of Rs 60,000 - 100,000 rent of the building and for past 4 months we couldn't pay the rent, salary to trainers and cleaners, EMI," Gowda said.

"I urge the government to take necessary steps to bring up the gym sector as they have allowed opening up of shops, temples, malls. We urge the government to take proper steps in the interest of gyms," added Gowda.

Mahesh, a gymer said that he had to participate in a competition and due to lockdown he could not work on his bodybuilding.

"I was building my body for one year and due to lockdown I couldn't do the workout, I had to take part in a competition, now I need at least another one year to build my body back," Mahesh said.

Prasad, international bodybuilder said, "Most of the bodybuilders and gym owners are running gyms by taking loans, they are not in the situation to pay their loan EMIs."

"It's very important for us to reopen gyms and run them with all precautions and guidelines but the government is not allowing us to pay our loans and many gym owners and trainers are facing a tough time to earn living. We have requested Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol and cabinet ministers to allow us to open, but the government hasn't taken the decision in the interest of gyms which is creating more problems for us," Prasad said.
