Ullal Muslims plunge into confusion as local Khazi snubs Bhatkal moon

Mangaluru, Jun 25: Muslims in parts of Dakshina Kannada district have plunged into confusion after Khazi of Ullal refused to announce the beginning of Shawwal and urged his followers to fast on Sunday and celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Monday.

1ullalThe bizarre development comes within hours after Dakshina Kannada district Khazi Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar formally declared the end of Ramadan after verifying the reports of moonsighting from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district.

Udupi Khazi Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal too has declared the end of Ramadan and announced that Sunday will be the first day of Shawwal in the region.

However, the unexpected decision of Ullal Khazi Fazal Koyamma Thangal Koorath to complete the 30th fasting of Ramadan has brought the divide among Muslims in the region to the fore.

Fasting on Eid day and celebrating Eid before the end of Ramadan are considered a sin in Islam. Hence, thousands of Muslims in the region are in dilemma. Taravih prayers were also reportedly held in Ullal Juma Masjid at midnight in spite of opposition from a section of clerics.

Meanwhile, many clerics are reportedly trying to convince the Ullal Khazi to change his decision and announce the beginning of Shawwal. More details are awaited.

Sad development. But the saddest thing is the ongoing grave worship in the same place. May Allah grant them Hidayah.

Extradited these useless thangas, they are there to devide muslims for their ego class...moon sighting in bhatkal is more than enough to end the month and celebrate the Eid. I think no need many khazis to Mangalore, they are spoil brat of Muslims especially in Mangalore becuase their EGO clash will not work in Kerala.

New Delhi, Jan 28: The Supreme Court of India today granted bail to 17 convicts sentenced to life imprisonment in 2002 Gujarat massacre case, pending their appeal before the Supreme Court.

The convicts also have to participate in social and spiritual services, said the court, announcing the riders for bail.

The Bench of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant directed for the convicts to be segregated into two groups to be sent to Indore and Jabalpur.

District legal authorities in Indore and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh have been asked to ensure that the convicts do the spiritual and social work the court has asked for.

The Supreme Court has also asked the administration to find them work for livelihood. The state legal services authority has been asked to file a compliance report as also report on their conduct.

The case concerns the mass killing of 33 innocent Muslims - mostly women and children - who were burnt alive at Sardarpura village in March 2002.

This was part of the mass massacre that swept through Gujarat in the aftermath of the death of train passengers on Sabarmati Express in Godhra on Feb 27, 2002. Thousands of innocent Muslims were killed and raped in the three-day violence. The victims include hundreds of children including newborns.

In 2016, the Gujarat High Court had upheld the conviction of 17 accused in the Sardarpura massacre case.

Earlier, a Special SIT court had convicted a total of 31 persons in the case, after three years of trial against 73 persons from Sardarpura and nearby villages.

Bengaluru, Mar 28: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar on Saturday appealed to the authorities to arrange transport for migrant workers, stating that it is appalling to see their plight as they are walking hundreds of kilometres to their villages amid COVID-19 lockdown.
"Appalling to see the plight of poor migrant workers who are walking hundreds of kms to their villages. We cannot abandon our citizens, especially children, and put them at risk. Appealing to the authorities to arrange transport. Please take sufficient safety precautions as well," Shivakumar tweeted.
Hundreds of people, comprising mostly of migrant workers and their families, gathered at the Lal Kua in Uttar Pradesh from Delhi, Gurugram and other places, to take buses to their respective destinations amid the lockdown.
While the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had imposed a nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Uttar Pradesh administration had decided to ply these buses to help thousands of migrant workers who were stuck in the national capital and had started returning on foot to their native places in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, among others.
