BJP planning to bring Amit Shah to trouble-hit Bantwal in August?

Mangaluru, Jun 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party supremo Amit Shah, who will be touring Karnataka for three days from August 3 may visit the communally sensitive areas of Dakshina Kannada district too, a local leader of the party said on condition of anonymity.shah

Entire Bantwal taluk is reeling under prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC for almost past one month thanks to the communal tensions erupted after the sporadic incidents of stabbing and stone pelting in areas like Kalladka. The murder of SDPI activist Ashraf Kalai in Benjanapadavu village on June 21 has worsened the situation in the taluk.

The Sangh Parivar has been demanding the release of the accused belonging to saffron outfits arrested in connection with the recent communal clashes in Kalladka. Hindutva groups had also planned a massive protest in Bantwal taluk on June 24.

The political activities also have gained momentum in the taluk as BJP has formally extended complete support the protest aimed targeting Congress leader and district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai. However, the extension prohibitory orders in four taluks of Dakshina Kannada district till June 27 may force the saffron groups to postpone the protest.

If sources are to be believed, the district BJP has planned to continue to pressurize Mr Rai till 2018 Karnataka polls. As part of this plan, the state BJP leadership may ask Mr Shah to pay a visit to Bantwal taluk.

During his Karnataka visit, Mr Shah will interact with BJP office-bearers, MPs and MLAs to get a feedback on the organisational issues and preparedness for the Assembly elections. The BJP is also keen on doing well in Karnataka, keeping the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in mind.

Bengaluru, Jan 15: Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Bengaluru has decided to remain shut for two days after a group of BJP workers wiped out graffiti on its outer walls claiming it as anti-Modi and allegedly warned them against any anti CAA agitation there.

According to sources, the group led by Yelahanka MLA S R Vishwanath allegedly even towed away some vehicles of students and faculty parked in front of the institute alleging that they were blocking the road and causing inconvenience to the local people.

Some students have alleged that they were threatened by BJP workers and also the institute's authorities regarding the graffiti and the blocking of the road using traffic police.

They even claimed that BJP workers warned them against organising any anti-NRC or CAA protests.

A few local residents are also said to have joined the BJP workers and raised complaints about the conduct of the institute's students.

According to local BJP workers, the MLA and a few party men had gone near the institute on receiving complaints from locals about vehicles parked there blocking the road, and when they came across the graffiti they painted it with saffron paint to avoid any controversy, and there was no altercation as being alleged.

However, there is no clarity on who drew the graffiti regarding Modi, which according to BJP workers allegedly depicted the PM in poor light.

The institute has declared holiday on Thursday and Friday to avoid any further escalation, keeping the interest and safety of students in mind, sources said.

Interestingly, on Tuesday graffiti had appeared overnight on the shutters of some shops and walls on the Church Street against Modi, CAA and NRC, following which the city police have launched an investigation.

Social media giant Twitter briefly blocked the Karnataka BJP's account after it posted several provocative tweets and taunted Muslim women.

Ironically, the BJP called its unhygienic tweets as "liberal views". "It is unfortunate that our handle was locked out by Twitter for speaking the truth about liberals," it said.

"A big thanks for your support and encouragement. Satymeva Jayate. Jai Hind," the political party said to its supporters.

However, it did not specify for how long Twitter blocked its account but tweeted again on Wednesday after Monday.

Last week Karnataka BJP drew flak on Twitter for taking a swipe at Muslim women who appear to be standing in a line to vote in Delhi's assembly polls. ""Kaagaz Nahi Dikayenge Hum" ! ! ! Keep the documents safe, you will need to show them again during NPR exercise (sic)," the party's Karnataka Twitter handle posted using the hashtag #DelhiPolls2020.

It tweeted on Monday, accusing Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Sushil Kumar Shinde and Vijay Bahuguna for "cheating" Dalits.

Karnataka BJP spokesperson G. Madhusudhan said that he had no idea about the account being blocked and then unblocked by Twitter.

"What has happened? I don't know," said Madhusudhana.

Reacting to the drubbing BJP suffered in the Delhi Assembly polls, the party tweeted that there is no need to lose heart.

"Now is the time to go back to voters to win their hearts and minds. Let us plan for 2025 from today. We are with you," tweeted Karnataka BJP on Wednesday.

Though BJP congratulated Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for winning the Delhi polls, the party highlighted that it managed to increase it vote share by six per cent compared to 2015.
