Lucknow, Jul 2: The lady cop, who had taken on the BJP leaders and fined one of them for not wearing helmet in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahar town, about 500 kilometres from here, was shunted out of the district allegedly on the demand of the local unit of the saffron party.ladycop

Shreshtha Thakur, the circle officer (CO) of Syana in Bulandshahar, was on Saturday night transferred to Baharaich, according to the official sources here.

“Got transfer to Bahraich, it’s Nepal border, don’t worry my friends I am happy ..I accept it as a reward for my good work. U all are invited to Bahraich,” said Thakur on her Facebook page. Over 200 police officers had been transferred in the reshuffle on Saturday.

Sources in the BJP here said that the local leader from Bulandshahar had taken up the incident with the state party president and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

''The local leaders said that the lady cop had humiliated them....they had made it a prestige issue,'' said a senior state BJP leader here. A home department official, however, termed the transfer a routine one.

BJP leaders had allegedly misbehaved with Thakur after the cops challaned the vehicle of a district panchayat member and party leader Pramod Lodhi for not being in possession of valid documents and not wearing helmet a week back.

Reports said that hundreds of BJP workers, who were led by local leaders, surrounded the lady officer and misbehaved with her. They also allegedly forcibly got Pramod released from the police custody inside the district court premises.

Jun 5: Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his wife Mahzabeen have tested positive for COVID-19, a top government source told CNN News 18. They were admitted to the Army Hospital in Karachi.

Some of Dawood's personal staff and guards have also been quarantined, the report said on Friday.

Dawood was the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai blasts and is one of the most-wanted gangsters by India. He has allegedly been living in Pakistan but the neighbouring country has always refusing to accept it.

Earlier in the day, a senior diplomat of the American embassy in Pakistan has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, a media report said.

In a statement, the embassy's spokesman said that while maintaining the privacy, the name of the citizen would not be disclosed.

The US State Department is responsible to protect its citizens, wherever they are, the spokesman added. In coordination with the Pakistani authorities, the consulate is working to enforce the coronavirus protocol in order to stem its spread. The spokesman added that isolation wards, contact tracing and quarantine facility are part of such protocols.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has 89,249 COVID-19 cases and the death toll is 1,838.

"If they have something to tell, they should come and discuss it within the party. They should go wherever they want. They have my good wishes," he said.

JDU spokesperson and national general secretary Pavan Verma has questioned his party's alliance with the BJP in Delhi Assembly polls while Kishor has more than once made his differences with the party known on the issue of the amended Citizenship Act, and National Register of Citizens.
