New Delhi, Jul 9: Former Union Minister Salman Khurshid has said that infiltration of the RSS into the Congress would continue to haunt the party for a long time.Salman copy

In an interview with a national English daily, the 64-year-old leader said that he came to know about such infiltration after the demolition of Babri mosque.

“The funny thing is that they do not even know that they are RSS. They are good RSS people by instinct but they do not know. The first time we got an idea was after the Babri demolition when some leaders began saying that we should not use the word ‘secular’ because it sent out a wrong message,” Khurshid said.

The former minister claims that he had singled out the people who would join BJP three years ago. “I had named Jagadambika Pal, the Bahugunas etc but I was silenced. I was told they were good party workers. I should not bring personal differences to the table. But they are still there in the party. And I know who are going to desert the party and switch sides next,” he added.

The former minister also said that the recent incidents of lynching are a worrying sign for the society and minorities can’t even speak about it.

"From streets being unsafe, we now have homes which are unsafe. Police stations have become the last place where you can get refuge. The mindset that allows lynching will not stop at targeting Muslims alone. It will spread to other sections, Dalits, Christians, Adivasis, intellectuals,” he told National Herald in an interview.

The Congress leader said the minorities had accused the UPA government of not doing enough for them but haven’t said anything to the present NDA dispensation. “I am not suggesting that they were always or even completely unfair. But in 2014 they followed a poor, self-denying strategy that eventually proved lethal for themselves,” he said.

Bengaluru, Apr 14: The Congress in Karnataka on Tuesday welcomed the extention of the COVID-19 lockdown till May 3, though it flayed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not announcing any programme to support the slowed down economy.

Reacting to the lockdown extension, Congress president D K Shivakumar said it was much needed to control the virus but expressed his displeasure for not offering any relief measure to uplift the economy which is witnessing slump.

"We had expectation that some package would be offered but that was not done. The manufacturing sector, service sector, agriculture sector and even the medical sector was looking for some relief but that was not the talking point of the Prime Minister," Shivakumar told reporters.

However, he maintained that the party would cooperate with the Centre in its fight against COVID-19.

Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah said he was "disappointed" that there was no programme announced to improve the economy, which is at the lowest level in 30 years.

"The economy has collapsed. Never ever in 30 years it had witnessed such a downfall. Industries are closing down.

Agriculture in bad shape. poeple have no money. Villages are in distress," the former chief minister said.

He opined that Modi should have make some announcement with regard to economic programmes and assistance to the weaker section.

"Labourers today are on the streets. Their programmes do not touch them. People had lots of expectations which are now meaningless," Siddaramaiah said.

However, he underlined that he does not oppose the lockdown and appealed to the people to support it wholeheartedly.

Bengaluru, Jul 3: Opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday opined that there is no other option left but to resort to 'Jail Bharo' agitation to expose the ruling BJP government's indulge in 'Corona Corruption' which runs into more than Rs 2000 crore.

Siddaramaiah said that according to a submission to the Karnataka High Court the government has submitted that it has incurred Rs 3,392 crore expenditure for Corona in the State so far. While the market price for equipment purchased will not exceed Rs 1163 crore and it clearly shows that the corruption is to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore.

Siddaramaiah speaking to a private TV channel here on Friday said the chief minister B S Yediyurappa-led State government should come out with a White Paper on the money spent for purchases made facilities provided to patients.

According to submission to the Court, the Government has purchased 1000 Ventilators by paying Rs 120 crore, while the market price is Rs 40 crores at Rs 4 lakh for each Ventilator. Why is Rs 120 crore more paid, does it not lead to doubt the government's claim. For purchase of kits, mask, gloves etc. it amounted to Rs 1,500 crores but paid by the government was Rs 9,000 crore."
