Common Proficiency Test: Alva's student emerges second topper in India

Mangaluru, Jul 19: Tavishi Dechamma, a student of Alva’s College, Moodbidri has emerged as second topper in the country in Common Proficiency Test (CPT), an entrance exam for CA aspirants.

Securing 191 marks out of 200 (95.50%), she has emerged topper in Karnataka, said Alva’s Education Foundation president Dr M Mohan Alva.

Tavishi is a native of Madikeri and had scored 591 in II PU Commerce stream. “I had not expected a rank in the CPT. The atmosphere in the college was conducive for studies which helped me to excel,” she said.

She said that she is pursuing CA at Jain College in Bengaluru along with BCom in evening college.

Dr Alva said that 130 students of Alva’s PU College had appeared for the exam and 105 students have cleared it. As many as 61 students have passed with distinction.

Other students who cleared with good marks are Shraddha M N (185 marks, 92.5%), Sringeri-based twins Swathi Hegde (186 marks 93%) and Bhavyasri N Hegde (184, 92%), Sukesh T S (176 marks), Abhayakanth (175 marks), Prakhyath Shetty (174 marks), Adithi S Hegde (174 marks), Nagendra (173 marks), Nikhila Ashrith (172 marks), Anitha K Hegde (172 marks).

Deekshith Shetty, a physically challenged boy from Siddakatte in Bantwal, has scored 127 marks. He has been pursuing education at Alva’s College under adoption scheme of the Alva’s Education Foundation.

Twenty students of St Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru, have cleared CPT. The College authorities lauded the efforts of Darshan P, who scored 180/200 marks and emerged the topper in the College. Darshan also ranked third in the state in the Commerce field in the II PU Board Exam 2017.

The CPT was conducted in the month of June. The College has been conducting CPT classes for the students for over 10 years and the results has always been fruitful, said a release from College.

Bengaluru, Jan 25: To address the grievances of the Industrialists, over the issue of acquisition of land, the state government have plans to dilute the Land Reforms Act, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, said here on Saturday.

Speaking to the media here, on his visit to the World Economic Forum, Davos, recently he said that 'the visit was fruitful and ends with satisfactory note by procuring promises from several Industrial houses to investment in Karnataka'.

Stating that during his five-day stay at Davos, he had met several Industries heads on the sidelines of the summit, and had an interactive meeting with them, Chief Minister said that 'the event had helped us to present our state Karnataka, to convince them about the prevailing industry-friendly environment'.

He said that he had met several heads of global companies, including Arcelor Mittal, Kirloskar, MAHINDRA, Bharat Forge, 2000 Watt, general electrical, Dassault, Dalmia, Lulu Group, Volvo, Nova Nosdik and Domeco.

'The interaction with the corporate heads was encouraging and more investment is expected to flow into Karnataka, in the fields of Mining, Power, Agriculture, Pharma, Education, and Industries.'

Informing that the main grouse expressed by the Industrialists about the bottlenecks being faced in the Land Reforms Act to procure land, he said that 'To make ease of conversion of Agricultural land we have plans to bring amendment and it would be both win-win situation to both Farmers as well as Industries.'

'We have promised them to remove all hurdles, which comes in the way of acquiring land to set up industries, and we have promised to rectify all the administrative problems within a month or two and legal problems in the next couple of months by amending existing laws.'

'We have also plans to present a new Industrial policy in the coming budget and roll out a comprehensive and investor-friendly law', he further said.

Replying to questions, Chief Minister said that 'all those investment proposals which got clearance at the High-Level Clearance Committee would automatically considered as ‘deemed permission’ and start the process of acquisition of land'.

'TheWorldEconomic Forum Summit had also served us as a platform to invite Industrialists to take part in the Karnataka Global Investors Meet scheduled to be held in November this year', he added.

Mangalore, Feb 17: The Popular Front of India (PFI) on Monday took out a march in Mangalore's Deralakatte without seeking permission, police said.

"They were only given permission for a programme but they took out a march from Madaninagar to Deralakatte," said ACP Kodanada Rama.

The Department of Preuniversity Education, Karnataka has declared the board exams or pre university I exam results. To get results online, the students need to log on to result.bspucpa.com and have to provide their registration number and date of birth. 
Apart from the online portal, the students will get the results via mail or SMS.

“The results of the first year Pre-University Examinations will be announced on May 5. The results will be sent directly to students. Hence, colleges will not be displaying the results,” said S Suresh Kumar, Primary and Secondary Education Minister. 

The pre-university course of PUC is a two-year course including class 11 and class 12 called PUC I and PUC II. It is based on PUC score that candidates can get admission to varsities.

Earlier, the Karnataka PUC 1 result was to be announced on March 27 which was postponed and hence the revised dates are announced now.

The board exam results have been put on halt due to the nation-wide lockdown imposed after the coronavirus pandemic gripped India. As of May 3, the number of people infected by the coronavirus in India had crossed over 40,000.

The HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had in a meeting asked state and central boards to resume their evaluation process and declare the results to curb any further delay in the academic cycle. The academic cycle has been delayed by over a month due to the coronavirus. Now, the colleges will start by September instead of July.
