Malappuram, Jul 25: In November 2016, a group of miscreants belonging to Sangh Parivar had hacked a Hindu-converted-Muslim youth to death with the intention of preventing the spread of Islam in Kerala’s Malappuram district. Now, at least 13 members from his family have accepted Islam.faisal

Anil Kumar alias Faisal (30), who was murdered when he had returned to his hometown on vacation from Saudi Arabia, used to teach Islam to his family members and relatives. The local Sangh Parivar activists had warned him of dire consequence if he failed to return to Hindu dharma.

Faisal’s wife Priya (now Jesni) and three children, all below 10 had embraced Islam a few days before Faisal’s murder. Within a month after the murder, his mother Meenakshi also accepted Islam. In a recent development, Faisal’s two sisters, their five children and a brother-in-law have embraced Islam and started practicing Islamic rituals.

Faisal’s another brother-in-law Vinod is one of the accused in his murder case. Vinod’s wife has divorced him after he was arrested in the murder case.

Faisal, who belonged to an upper-caste Hindu Nair family, accepted Islam while he was in Saudi Arabia Riyadh only after a prolonged study in early 2016. After he came home in August, he began to teach Quran to his family members.

Faisal wasn’t the first one

Family sources said that many years before the conversion of Faisal, his uncle, aunt and their two daughters had embraced Islam. The uncle’s family continues to live in the district.

According to Faisal’s father Krishnan Nair, Faisal became a Muslim by choice. “No one compelled him. It was his decision. But miscreants did not allow him to live,’ says Nair.

Faisal was attacked while he was going to pick up his relatives from Tanur railway station in an auto-rickshaw at Farooq Nagar around 500 metres away from his house in Malappuram district on November 19. He was supposed to fly back to Saudi Arabia the very next day.

Twelve RSS/BJP workers, including Vinod, had been arrested in the murder case. The prime accused Madathil Narayan, 47, has been RSS karya vahak at Tirur in Malappuram. He had been an accused in the murder of another Muslim convert, Yasir, in 1998. It was in July last year that the Supreme Court acquitted him in the case.

New Delhi, Feb 24: India has deeply appreciated the Senegal government's decision to extradite fugitive gangster Ravi Poojary to India, official sources said on Sunday.

Facilitation of transit provided by the Government of France has also been acknowledged, they said.

Ravi Prakash Poojary, accused of committing a number of serious offences including murder and extortion in multiple jurisdictions, was extradited from Senegal on Saturday.

The probe agencies have persistently pursued the case for his extradition with the authorities in Senegal. India had made a request with Senegal for his extradition in early 2019, sources said.

Poojary was associated with gangster Chhota Rajan, but he also worked for fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 31: The Kerala government

on Tuesday rejected concerns of community spread of novel coronavirus in the state in the wake of the second death of a patient here who had no travel history or reported contact with any infected person.

Setting aside the concern, Health Minister K K Shylaja said the deceased man, a native of nearby Pothancode, was already suffering from several other health issues including high blood pressure.

The 68-yearold man died at the government medical college here, taking the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Kerala to two, the government said.

"We have got information that the deceased man had come in contact with some persons arrived from the Gulf. As he was very sick and was not in a position to speak, we could not collect details from him directly," she told reporters here.

"So we had to collect such details from his relatives now. As per preliminary assessment, it was a case of contact spread. So, as of now, there is no need to get panic about the community spread," she said

The possibility of death was high among patients, aged above 60 years and suffering from other diseases like heart ailments or diabetics, she said.

"That's why we are giving strict directions to the elderly people to remain in homes and avoid contact with infected persons, " the minister said.

However, the minister directed those came in contact with the deceased person to remain in self-quarantine and inform the authorities if they developed any infection symptoms.

In both the coronavirus deaths in the state, the deceased persons were aged and were suffering from other diseases, she added.

Bengaluru, Mar 5: At 11 am on Friday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa will present the State Budget for the 2020-2021 fiscal. Coming at a time when the state is facing financial challenges, the budget is expected to have minor tax shocks for citizens, while making space for big-ticket allocations to the agriculture and water resources ministries. Thursday's budget will be Yediyurappa’s seventh.

“Agriculture is our primary focus. The recent gazette notification of the Mahadayi tribunal order is a welcome move for Karnataka and we will make budgetary allocations for this too,” the CM had said.

The cut back in devolution of funds for Karnataka from the divisible pool, trimming of funds from the Union Government for Centrally-sponsored schemes and tax collections falling short of revenue targets have made matters tough for Yediyurappa. The consolation may be the part payment of one installment of GST compensation from the Centre. The GST compensation, in part for the October-November period, was released to the state in time for tabling of the budget.
