quranMangalore, September 23: Shaheen College of Bidar has taken up the initiative of 'Hifzul-Quran Plus', a 4-year integrated course for Huffaz-e-Karam between the ages of 12 and 15 years.

Speaking at a press meet here on Sunday, Abdul Khadeer, Founder and General Secretary of Shaheen Group of Institutions, said that the course was initiated with the aim of fulfilling the requirements of students by providing them the education necessary to pursue professional courses.

“We wish to bring Islamic and modern education together in schools. The government of India is also keen in including science as a subject in madrasas. We also help the needy students by enrolling them free of cost. Currently, more than 70 students from 10 states have been enrolled for Hifzul-Quran Plus,” he said.

The course comprises of a foundation course for six months where basic Mathematics and languages will be taught, a bridge course of six months, followed by Class 10 for a period of 1 year and PUC (Science) for 2 years. During PUC, the students will also be prepared for competitive exams such as NEET, IIT, AIEEE, NDA etc., he said.

Apart from the unique Hifzul-Quran Plus, the college offers courses for Hafiz-ul-Quran as well as for CET repeaters. Shaheen College is the only institute in the State offering such a course, he said.

Another feature of Shaheen College is that tuitions are strictly banned. “Tuitions are harmful. Following our example, other colleges have also stopped tuitions and Bidar is now a tuition-free district,” said Mr Qadeer.

15 per cent intake of the entire institution is free of cost, he added.

Shaheen Group of Institutions has classes from elementary up to degree level comprising of 8000 students from 10 states, with degree course being offered only to girls. It is managed by Allama Iqbal Educational Society and was started in 1990 with the aim of promoting educational awareness in a remote village in Bidar district.

The fee structure for PUC was Rs 68000 per year along with hostel facilities, while for Hifzul-Quran it was Rs 36000, he said.

Kota, May 9: Karnataka Yakshagana Academy has come to the rescue of artists in distress due to cancellation of all Yakshagana festivals following coronavirus outbreak and clamping of lock-down.

The academy spends lakh of rupees every year from the money sanctioned to it on training new artists, performances and documentation. However, no such activity was undertaken due to COVID-19. Hence, the academy is discussing to transfer a large amount of money to Yakshagana artists as emergency aid, Academy President Prof M A Hegde said here.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said that along with this aid the donations by the public and Yakshagana admirers too could be given to the artists.

Mangaluru, Jul 24: Parents in Dakshina Kannada are urging the educational institutions to reduce fees at least by 75% as most of the infrastructure and resources are not being utilized due to online classes.

“School campuses are now closed. Why we have to pay such a heavy fee when our children are not availing the facilities offered on campus?” asks a Sapna (name changed), a parent, whose two daughters study at a prestigious private school in Mangaluru.

Even though some schools considered as small players have reduced fees, most of the “prestigious” institutions in the Mangaluru have so far refused to give any discount.

“Apart from paying school fees, now we have to invest in gadgets, internet connections and accessories required for online classes. School administration can use their infrastructure and facilities for other purposes as students are not utilizing them. Hence, they must give us maximum discount during this pandemic,” said another parent.

On the other hand, many parents are facing a dire financial situation due to covid-19 lockdown – while some have suffered losses in their business some have lost their jobs.

Many parents have even approached the education department to ensure that they get a discount in fees from educational institutions, said Dakshina Kannada DDPI Malleswamy.

“We cannot do anything since a government circular has asked educational institutions not to hike fees, which they have not done, and reduce fees if possible, which will never happen. The department is acting against only those schools that forcefully collect fees,” the DDPI said.

Mangaluru, Jul 13: Air India Express flight brought around 170 passengers from Bahrain to Mangaluru under Vande Bharat Mission yesterday.

This is the first VBM flight from Bahrain to Mangaluru. The flight took off from Bahrain at 10 am on Sunday and landed at Mangaluru International airport at 4.45 pm.

Even though thousands of Indian expatriates from other gulf countries were brought to Mangaluru in past few weeks, no flight was arranged from Bahrain so far. Hence, several Mangalureans including senior citizens, women and patients were stranded in Bahrain for months together.

Local entrepreneur and president of Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Mohammed Mansoor, who saw the plight of the hapless Indian expatriates in Bahrain had discussions with the Indian embassy in Bahrain and convinced it to arrange a special Air India Express flight under the Vande Bharat Mission.

IOC, along with the cooperation of ‘KHK Heroes’ had arranged meal kits for passengers during their flight to Mangaluru. IOC had also contacted all the Mangaluru-based NRIs who wanted to fly back to India and made a list with the help of Indian embassy to avoid any untoward incidents.

IOC had also given details of hotels to be quarantined in Mangaluru and Udupi, names of nodal officers to be contacted and emergency telephone numbers. The passengers were given a warm farewell by the office bearers of IOC from Bahrain international airport.

The effort taken by Mohammed Mansoor, president of IOC is lauded by all. All the passengers who travelled by the flight have thanked IOC and its office bearers whole heartedly.
