Kasaragod, Aug 10: The body of a 4-year-old girl who was feared to have been swept away in a swollen stream adjacent to her residence at the eastern border township of Panathur last Thursday was recovered from a nearby river on Wednesday.

The body of Sana Fathima was found stuck on a submerged branch of a tree around 2 p.m. at Pavithramkayam, over a km from her Bapumkayam residence by a person engaged in the search efforts.

The water level in the river had receded owing to a respite in rainfall over the past two days, a senior police official at the Rajapuram station said.

Sana Fathima is the daughter of Ibrahim, an autorickshwaw driver.

The anganwadi student went missing as she was playing close to the swollen stream around 4 p.m. on the ill-fated day.

Local people, the police, Fire and Rescue Services personnel, and divers from the coastal police braved inclement weather and launched a massive search operation across the nearly 5-km stretch of the flooded river, a tributary of the Chandragiri river.

With the suspense over the girl’s mysterious disappearance refusing to die down, a disaster management team used special gadgets on Wednesday to search along the banks of the Chandragiri at various localities.

SHRC directive

The State Child Rights Protection Commission on Monday, while registering a suo motu case, directed the District Police Chief and child protection officials to file a report within 15 days on the status of the search operations.

The rights panel’s decision came amid media reports about the possibility of the girl being frisked away by nomadic groups, following which the police alerted police stations across Kerala and Karnataka.

The body of the girl was shifted to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Bengaluru, Mar 19: As a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf has issued an advisory to mosques, dargahs and other religious institutions, requesting them to conclude the Friday congregation in 15 minutes for the next three weeks.

"Respected head of masjids and imams (prayer leader) are requested to conclude the entire Juma congregation (including Juma khutbah, salah and dua) in 15 minutes for the next three weeks and avoid using the public mic for the khutbah and salah," read a statement from the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf.

It has advised to ensure cleanliness and good hygiene inside mosques and keep the carpets, prayer mats, floor mats etc clean.

Further, it stated that those coming for daily prayers should be instructed to perform wudhu (ablution) at their homes and avoid using prayer caps placed in masjids.

"Please remove the public towels and prayer caps from the masjids. Sunnah and nafil prayers should observed at home," the advisory read.

The advisory came as the number of coronavirus patients spiralled across the country. The governments are taking all precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus that has claimed more than 7,500 lives across the globe since its outbreak in China in December last year.

Doesn't this reflect upon our stupidity. They have lost the whole point of virus spread. Let's pray as per our so called Muslim religious leaders IQ level that the virus does not spread among the hundreds in that 15 minutes. This is exactly why we are losing it.

Mangaluru, Mar 10: Tension prevailed in the city after an international flyer quarantined at the District Wenlock Hospital walked out of the facility.

The passenger, with a recent travel history to high-risk countries, refused to cooperate with health officials. The day-long drama ended when the district administration intervened and the flyer agreed to get himself re-admitted.

Deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh said the passenger had fever and was sent to an isolation ward. “The passenger is cooperating with the treatment and samples have been collected for testing,” she said. The samples will be sent to a testing centre in Bengaluru.

Sources told  that rude behaviour by staff at Mangalore International Airport may have angered the passenger and he walked out of the quarantine facility.

She said if passengers show reluctance to be screened, they should first be counselled and allowed to get themselves admitted to a hospital of their choice with quarantine facility. If they still refuse to cooperate, they will have to be hospitalised forcefully, she added.
