Former hockey player from Kodagu stabbed to death by wife

Madikeri, Aug 21: A former hockey player from Kodagu was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife over some dispute in Malad suburb located in the northern part of Mumbai.

52-year-old Chenanda Naveen Appaiah and his wife Amita had an argument over some issue at around 1 pm yesterday. The dispute escalated into a fight and during the scuffle, Amita stabbed her husband, said a police official.

"Even though the motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, the dispute appears to be the immediate reason behind the killing," a senior police official attached to Malad police station said. Amita is yet to be arrested as she too has sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said police.

Meanwhile, a television actress, who stays on the 26th floor of the same building, said, "My domestic help heard a scream at around 1:15 pm and found Amita lying near her door and writhing in pain. "He then went down and informed the security guards about the incident, but they refused any help and instead asked the domestic help to call police helpline number."

Appaiah, who had moved to Mumbai years ago was a close friend of former Indian hockey captain Dhanraj Pillai.

Mangaluru, Mar 25: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has so far given nod to three private laboratories in Karnataka for testing COVID-19. The ICMR comes under the Department of Health, Government of India

The three labs are KMC Hospital Manipal, Shankar Research Centre's laboratory, and SRL laboratory on Bowring Hospital Road at Shivajinagar, Bengaluru.

Eight private labs from Maharashtra, two from Haryana, three from Tamil Nadu, four from Delhi, and three each from Karnataka and Gujarat have been given permission. 

These labs have over 15,000 collection centres all over the country. Blood samples and throat swabs of coronavirus suspects can be given at these centres.

Kasaragod, Mar 31: The latest incidents of critically-ill patients dying due to lack of medical attention has been a cause of concern for the people here who had largely been depended on hospitals in Mangalore.

However the lock down has hindered follow-up treatment for these critically ill as the Karnataka authorities has been steadfast in restricting entry into their land.

The people of Kasaragod has been largely depended on the medical facilities in Mangalore for critical illness care. It was the gross inadequacies in critical healthcare in the district besides rather-easy proximity to nearby and bigger town that many residing on the north-east of the district have since long been making it to Mangalore for treatment of critical illness like cancer, dialysis and the alike.

Bengaluru, Apr 25: With 26 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in the past 24 hours, the total number of positive cases in Karnataka reached 500 on Saturday.

This includes 158 patients who have been cured and discharged following treatment while 18 deaths have been reported so far due to the infection in the State, according to a media bulletin issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday evening.

A total of 324 COVID-19 cases are currently active in the State as of Saturday evening 5 pm.
According to the bulletin, Bengaluru Urban with 133 positive cases, including 49 discharged and four deaths, is the worst-affected district in the State, followed by Mysuru and Belagavi, with 89 and 54 confirmed cases, respectively.
