23 Sangh Parivar, 8 DYFI activists arrested over post I-Day violence

Kasaragod, Sept 9: As many as 23 BJP-RSS sympathisers and eight DYFI activists have been arrested in connection with the sporadic violence that followed a public meeting organised by the pro-CPI(M) youth outfit in the BJP stronghold of Kottapara on Independence Day on August 15.

According to police sources, 12 BJP workers from Mavungal in the Hosdurg police station limits and another 11 from Kottapara falling under the Ambalathara police station limits have been arrested in connection with the violence.

The BJP workers have been remanded in judicial custody under Sections 353 (assault or obstruction of official duty of public servants) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code and under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.

The DYFI workers have been arrested for attacking BJP loyalists while returning home after attending a public meeting and for vandalising a BJP office at Kanhangad South, polce sources said.

Belgaum, May 6: A police constable engaged in security duty at the Belgaum District Collector's bungalow committed suicide by shooting himself on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Prakash Gurvannavar (32) who was a native of Ambadgatti village in Kittur taluka in the Belgaum district.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Commissioner of Police Lokesh Kumar rushed to the spot.

Further investigation is underway.

Mysuru, Jul 17: Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar has ordered a partial lockdown in the City of Palaces Mysuru due to the increase in number of Covid-19 cases day by day.

As per the order, the lockdown will be in force from 0600 hours today till 0600 hours on July 24 at N R, Udayagiri, Lashkar and Mandi Mohalla Police limits in the city. In addition, it has decided to lockdown 400 meters from the house where Covid-19 patients have died.

The order further states that all the religious gatherings are prohibited and only parcel service is available to hotels.  Movement of vehicles is also prohibited but in emergency cases, it may be allowed.  Employees and people on essential services can go to work after producing their ID cards.

Udupi, Jul 15: Two doctors and four staff members of the Udupi District Hospital have been tested positive for coronavirus.

While one doctor is undergoing treatment at the designated covid hospital, the other one, who is said to be asymptomatic, is being treated at his residence.

After four staff members of the hospital tested covid positive, the throat swabs of their contacts including other staff of the hospital and family members were also sent for testing. 

Meanwhile, a person who was undergoing treatment in the district hospital for some other ailment also tested covid positive triggering panic among other non-covid patients.
