SIT gets facial profile of Gauri's killer done

Bengaluru, Sept 21: In a major breakthrough in the Gauri Lankesh murder case, the Special Investigating Team (SIT) has managed to get a facial profile of the assailant done and started a massive hunt for the man who killed Gauri.

The SIT, which went through 634 digital video recorders (DVRs), developed the image based on the footage from one of the CCTV cameras on the path from her office to residence. It also scrutinised CCTV camera footage from her house, which the assailant visited twice before the murder on September 5.

A senior police officer from the SIT told DH, “The video frames clearly show the assailant was on a Bajaj Pulsar, wearing a formal shirt and trousera (not black jacket as reported earlier), a white helmet without a visor, a wristband, a watch and office tag around his neck. The officer said the assailant is lean built and aged between 34 to 38 years. The rough facial profile has given the SIT enough leads, it is said.

“Eyewitnesses gave us descriptions of the assailant and they match with the facial profile. This is a big breakthrough we have got,” said a senior official from the SIT.

A team has been formed to question second-hand bike dealers. Officials from the SIT are collecting details from the dealers on people they sold vehicles to.

On Wednesday, the Rajarajeshwarinagar police went around the area and handed over pamphlets to residents, requesting for help.

Information sought

The police have urged the people to inform them about any suspicious person who moved around in the area on September 5 or afterwards. The residents have been asked to share the information with the Rajarajeshwarinagar police on 080-22942559 or on 94808 01725. But the handbill did not mention anything about Gauri’s murder.

The color/make of the vehicle keeps changing as leaked by SIT, for whatever reasons. As per this report, the assailant was wearing an office tag around his neck. That is very suspicious. They can't be that stupid unless it was not a very well planned murder. If the same people or organization was involved like in other similar cases then the assailant would be more careful because of past experience. Hope the truth will come out soon to put an end to all speculations.

Bengaluru, May 28: A thousand government schools in Karnataka are set to get Englishmedium sections from this academic year (2020-21). These institutions will function in both English and Kannada medium.

The decision was taken by primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar and officials of the education department at a meeting on Wednesday.

Suresh Kumar said dualmedium will help improve the standard of schools and enable their development. The poorest of the poor spend almost 40% of their income on their children’s education in private schools. With the introduction of dual-medium, the government hopes such families will be able to save their earnings, he said. These schools will impart lessons in both English and Kannada. They will also provide textbooks in both languages.

‘Kannada must for all’

The meeting reviewed implementation of the compulsory Kannada Language Learning Act, 2015. Officials from the Kannada Development Authority were present at the meeting who claimed that some private schools have failed to implement the Act properly.

“Action will be taken against such institutions. Every child studying in schools across the state must learn Kannada,” Kumar said at the meeting.

Udupi, Jun 5: Senior BJP leader and Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlje accused members of Tablighi Jamaat of spreading Coronavirus, particularly in slums, in Bengaluru.

Speaking to newsmen here Friday night, she said that the members had intentionally spread the virus in Siddique Layout and Padarayanapura. Members had hatched a conspiracy to destroy the country. She would raise the issue with the central government.

She said that New Delhi and Maharashtra were responsible for rising Covid-19 cases in the country. Highlighting the programmes, introduced by Modi-led NDA government for the past six years, she blamed Covid-19 for the collapse of the economy. But for Covid-19 Modi government at the Centre would have been a leader in the world,” she added.

She said 13,541 people, stranded in other States and foreign countries, had returned to Udupi. “We have sufficient beds in the district to tackle the situation. But if more people decide to travel to Udupi, arranging quarantine facilities would be a huge challenge,” she added.
