Bengaluru, Oct 6: As many as five saffron extremists linked to the Sanatan Sanstha, a hardline Hindutva outfit, have emerged as key suspects in the coldblooded murder of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh.

The key suspects have been identified as Jayaprakash alias Anna (45), from Mangaluru; Praveen Limkar (34), from Kolhapur; Sarang Akolkar (38), from Pune; Rudra Patil (37), from Sangli and Vinay Pawar (32), from Satara. All of them are absconding.

According to sources, four of them even have Interpol red-corner notices against their names for their alleged involvement in the 2009 Margao bomb blast where two Sanatan Sanstha men were killed while transporting an IED that was to be planted at a Diwali program in Madgaon.

Patil, Akolkar and Pawar had emerged as suspects also during the CBI investigation into the murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar in August 2013, in the probe into the killing of leftist thinker and rationalist Govind Pansare in February 2015 and also in the investigation into the murder of Kannada scholar M M Kalburgi in August 2015, a national daily reported.

Akolkar and Patil along with Limkar and Anna are also suspected to be key players in the October 2009 Margao bomb blast when two members of Sanatan Sanstha were killed while transporting an IED that was to be planted at a Diwali programme in the area.

The special investigation team (SIT) of the Karnataka police, which is probing into the Gauri murder has already found out the striking similarities in the murders of Gauri, Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare and MM Kalburgi.

Kalburgi was killed at 8:40 am when two men arrived at his house on a motorcycle, knocked on his door and shot him when he opened it. This is very similar to what happened to Gauri, though her murder was at night. A 7.65 mm countrymade pistol was used for both murders, as well as the murders of Dabholkar (killed in Kolhapur, Maharashtra) and Pansare (killed in Pune).

Bengaluru, Jul 3: Opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday opined that there is no other option left but to resort to 'Jail Bharo' agitation to expose the ruling BJP government's indulge in 'Corona Corruption' which runs into more than Rs 2000 crore.

Siddaramaiah said that according to a submission to the Karnataka High Court the government has submitted that it has incurred Rs 3,392 crore expenditure for Corona in the State so far. While the market price for equipment purchased will not exceed Rs 1163 crore and it clearly shows that the corruption is to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore.

Siddaramaiah speaking to a private TV channel here on Friday said the chief minister B S Yediyurappa-led State government should come out with a White Paper on the money spent for purchases made facilities provided to patients.

According to submission to the Court, the Government has purchased 1000 Ventilators by paying Rs 120 crore, while the market price is Rs 40 crores at Rs 4 lakh for each Ventilator. Why is Rs 120 crore more paid, does it not lead to doubt the government's claim. For purchase of kits, mask, gloves etc. it amounted to Rs 1,500 crores but paid by the government was Rs 9,000 crore."

Bengaluru, May 29: A cost-effective state of the art glove box testing booth for swab collection was inaugurated by Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar at Victoria hospital.

Inaugurating the specially designed booth for safer, easier and quicker testing, Medical Education Minister Dr Sudhakar said that the portable booths can be used at border check posts and hot spots.

"The testing method involves the collection of samples from inside a box of aluminium and glass. The suspected corona virus-infected individual, whose samples are being taken, has to walk up to the booth and stand in front of the glass exterior. The healthcare worker inside the kiosk collects the sample and then, follows the sanitisation process before proceeding to take the next sample. The collection process, fully contactless, gets over in five minutes," the Minister said.

Dr Sudhakar also said: "This booth significantly reduces manpower requirement and the need for PPE kits. The main advantages of this procedure are that it needs fewer healthcare workers and strictly adheres to the norms of social distancing.

The booth is low-cost. Each model costs about Rs 15,000-20,000."
It is also portable and can be mounted on a vehicle and transported to any location.

It can be particularly useful for collecting samples in hot spots and border checkpoints, he added.
