Mangaluru: Gang attacks two Muslim youths at Bajal

Mangaluru, Oct 8: A gang of miscreants, armed with machetes and other weapons, attacked two Muslim youths at Bajal on the outskirts of city on Thursday.

According to sources Hafiz and Ejaz were watching a volleyball match when over a dozen miscreants attacked them without any provocation. 

Local residents rushed both the victims to a hospital for emergency treatment. The motive behind the attack is yet to be known.

Some of the accused have been identified as Nithin, Akash, Rakshak, Nikhil, Steven, Ashik and Rakesh.

According to eye witnesses, the miscreants also broke the window panes of a house and vandalized a vehicle before leaving the spot. 

Sleuths from Kankanady town police station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Bengaluru, Jan 10: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the murder case of journalist-activist Gauri, arrested absconding suspect Rushikesh Devdikar alias Murali (44) from Dhanbad district in Jharkhand on Thursday evening and is bringing him to the city.

Rushikesh is the 18th suspect arrested in the case, Chief Investigating Officer M N Anucheth said. The investigation has revealed that he was primarily involved in the conspiracy to murder Gauri.

Rushikesh, who was hiding in a house in Katras, Dhanbad, will be produced before the local Judicial Magistrate in Dhanbad on Friday, said Anucheth, adding that the SIT had searched his house for clues. "We will obtain a transit warrant from the court and then bring him to Bengaluru," the officer said.

Originally from Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Rushikesh's family still lives there.

Gauri Lankesh was shot dead near her residence at around 8.20 pm on September 5, 2017, by two bike-borne men.

Newsroom, Feb 10: Habeeb Ur Rahiman, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at Kingdom University Bahrain, has been awarded doctorate from the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.

He has completed his thesis Influence of Quality of Work Life, Ego Status and Job Attitude on Organisational Commitment and Productivity of Bank Employees under the guidance of Prof Rashmi Kodikal. 

Habeeb Ur Rahiman is the son of Yusuf and Ayisha couple from Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district.

After obtaining his Master Degree (MBA, Finance) from Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2012, he had worked in Bearys First Grade College, Kundapura and P A College of Engineering, Mangaluru before migrating to Bahrain.

Gadag, Aug 1: A woman in Gadag district of Karnataka mortgaged her 'mangalsutra' to buy a television set for her children following the Karnataka government's decision to continue the classes through TV amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A resident of Radder Naganur village, Kasturi, who is also a mother of two, purchased a television set against her 'mangalsutra' for Rs 14,000. She bought the TV after her children's school teachers asked them to attend classes via the television set.

Kasturi said, "I can not send the children to the neighbours' house every day and it was necessary for them to study. We had no other option but to buy a TV set."

She said, "Both, my husband and I are daily wage workers and during coronavirus, we do not have work or money."

"I sold my 'mangalsutra' for Rs 20,000 and bought a TV for Rs 14,000," said Kasturi while happily adding, "Now, my kids can study at home itself."

Kasturi's daughter, Surekha said, "We did not have the TV for several months but now when we have it, we will study and get a bigger 'mangalsutra' for my mother."
