It’s Kalladka Bhat’s order: Churches, dargahs, madrasas must celebrate national festivals

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat has urged the Karnataka government to issue a strict diktat to the religious centres of Christians and Muslims to compulsorily celebrate all the national festivals of India.

Speaking to media persons in Belagavi on Monday, Bhat said that it was the responsibility of the State government to ensure that national festivals are celebrated in churches, dargahs and madrasas.

Accusing the chief minister Siddaramaiah and his government of committing atrocities on Hindus in the name of promoting secularism, he urged the people to topple the “anti-Hindu government”.

He spoke against the Muzrai Department administering Hindu temples, while letting autonomous bodies like the Wakf board, oversee mosques and dargahs.

He said he will appreciate if religion dictated politics, but will not tolerate politics controlling religion. He warned the government against interfering in religious institutions.

Don’t jump to conclusions

Bhat decried the habit of “pointing fingers” at Hindutva organisations even before the investigations into the murder of activist-journalist Gauri Lankesh and scholar M.M. Kalburgi are over. “It is unfair to come to a conclusion before the police completed their task,” he added.

Nobody can dare to force any religions, what to follow and what not to follow. It is not the business of anybody. It is command what they are following from their God. If he wants he can do at his home even he can not force his people at the temple.

Now devotees in Karnataka can meet their 'gods' online as govt mulls live streaming of pujas, sevas

Bengaluru, May 21: With temples yet to open for devotees as coronavirus restrictions are in place, the Karnataka government is preparing for live streaming of sevas (service) and poojas offered to deities at temples that comes under the state's Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Department.

The government has also decided to develop an app and web-based software with an intention to provide information to devotees regarding temples, also to facilitate online donations and advance booking for various sevas offered there.

Regarding online live streaming, Commissioner of the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Department has written to the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts and Executive Officers seeking a list of temples that comes under their jurisdiction where such facility can be provided.

"It has been intended to do online live streaming of sevas and pooja rituals at temples that come under the department in the backdrop of COVID-19 crisis. In this regard it is requested to provide a list of temples where online live facility can be provided to devotees, by abiding the traditions and practices of the temple," the letter said.

Though the temples are holding daily poojas and rituals, they are not open to public for now, with COVID-19 induced lockdown restrictions in place.

Officials had recently had stated that the department was planning to have a standard operating procedure (SOP) in place, that needs to be followed at temples in a post lockdown scenario, once they are opened for the public.

There are over 34,000 temples in the state that come under the department.

Meanwhile, in another letter to DCs of 15 districts, also Executive officers and administrators of 'A' grade temples, aimed at development of app and web-based software, the Commissioner has sought information regarding sevas offered at temples in their jurisdictions and those sevas for which option can be provided for devotees to do advance booking.

Mangaluru: Over 1500 students, teacehrs to take part in ABVP state conference

Mangaluru, Feb 6: Over 1500 students and teachers are expected to take part in a three-day State-level conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) starting on Friday here.

Reception Committee chairman K.C. Nayak and secretary Shantharama Shetty told reporters here today that Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayana would inaugurate the conference at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall.

The former ABVP national president and former Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya would preside over the programme that would be attended by Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P.S. Yadapadithaya, ABVP national organising secretary Ashish Chauhan and others.

Team Be Human statiates the hunger of Mangaluru's civic workers amidst lockdown

Mangaluru, May 19: Team Be Human, a city based group of philanthropists, has taken commendable initiative to satiate the hunger of the civic workers of Mangaluru City Corporation that are endangering their lives to keep the city clean amidst covid-19 lockdown.

On Friday, April 18, gorcesary kits were distributed among around 180 civic workers at Eidgah Maidan in Light House Hill in the presence of Corporator Abdul Raoof Bajal, Mansoor Ahmed Azad, Aina group Ashraf, Ceco Asif, Advocate Abdul Shukoor, U B Saleem, Sahil Zaheer, Rash Beary, Munna Kammaradi and Abdul Muttalib.

The Team swung into action on hearing the civic workers' plight due to the delay in payment of their wages by the Antony Waste Management firm. The Team was helped by the alumni of the St Aloysius College, Mangaluru (batch 1989).

This is not the first time the Team Be Human distributing kits among the needy. Amidst lockdown it has already distributed around 1200 grocery kits among the poor people including the daily wage workers, migrant labourers in Dakshina Kannada district with help of Ahnaf Deals, Altaf, Shameem, Basha, Pradeep, Vincent, Shiyaz Deals, Nawaz and Haneef.

In its next step the Team Be Human is planning to distribute the kits among civic workers in Urva and Suratkal region, said Asif Deals, founder president of Team Be Human. He called upon the youth and students to come forward to help the needy and poor people who are deprived of basic facilities.
