Amethi, Oct 10: BJP president Amit Shah today hit back at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for questioning what his party had done during its rule, saying it has "given a prime minister who speaks".

Shah also slammed Rahul for mocking the development in Gujarat by asking the Congress leader what three generations of his family had done for Amethi.

"He is mocking at the development in Gujarat. I want to ask 'Shahzade' of Congress as to what your three generations have given to Amethi," the BJP president said at a public meeting here.

"You sought account of our past three years but people of Amethi are taking account of works done here by your past three generations," he said.

On Rahul Gandhi's repeated poser as to what the BJP had done, Shah said, "We have given a prime minister who speaks."

"You have trusted a family for 60 years, now trust BJP and (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi and you will not feel betrayed," Shah told the gathering in the presence of Union minister Smriti Irani and chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

Shah said there were two models of development here -- a 'Nehru-Gandhi model' and the other the 'Modi model'.

"Congress ruled the country for 70 years. I want to ask you that you have been MP here for a long time but why there is no collector's office, TB hospital and Akashwani's FM here. Erosion of land due to Gomti river has not been stopped," Shah said.

Naming the schemes launched by the Narendra Modi government, he said that 106 projects were launched in the past three years.

"For the first time in 35-40 years, I am seeing that the winning candidate remains missing from his constituency and a defeated candidate is giving time for the people," Shah said, hailing the work being done in the area by Irani.

Irani was defeated by Rahul in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP chief said that Amethi is known all over the world as a Nehru-Gandhi family bastion, but there has been no development.

"Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will develop UP," he asserted.

Taking a swipe at Rahul, Shah said, "Rahul baba cannot see development as he sports Italian spectacles."

Mumbai, Jan 30: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested Dr Kafeel Khan from Mumbai airport for allegedly making inflammatory statements at AMU during protests against the Citizenship Amendments Act (CAA) last month, officials said.

Khan was arrested on Wednesday night with assistance from Mumbai Police at the airport when he arrived in the city to attend anti-CAA protests, an official said.

"Officials of the UP STF arrested Dr Kafeel Khan in a case which was registered at Civil Lines Police Station under section 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) of IPC. Our police team helped our UP counterparts on their request," said an official from Mumbai Police.

He claimed that Khan had made inflammatory statements on December 12 last year during the protest near Bab e Syed Gate outside the Aligarh Muslim University in front of more than 600 students.

The official also alleged that the Gorakhpur doctor had made objectionable comments against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The FIR against Khan mentions that Swaraj India's president Yogendra Yadav was also present during the speech at AMU.

Following the arrest in the case, Khan was taken to the Sahar Police Station and after completing formalities he will be taken to UP on transit remand, the official said.

Khan, a paediatrician, had come to the limelight in 2017 when a controversy broke out after the death of over 60 children in less than a week at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, UP.

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 29: With Saudi Arabia indefinitely suspending visas for visit to Islam's holiest site for the Umrah pilgrimage in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, more than 10,000 people in the state who are awaiting their turn this year for the annual Hajj pilgrimage are a worried lot.

"This year more than 10,000 people in Kerala have been cleared by the Hajj committee," said C Muhammed Faizy, chairman, Kerala State Hajj Committee.

"There is no cause of worry. We hope that during the time of the pilgrimage, the travel restriction by Saudi Arabia will be lifted," he said.

Umrah is a pilgrimage to the holy site that can be undertaken at any time of the year, while the annual Hajj pilgrimage has specific months according to the lunar calendar.

"The move by the Saudi Arabian Government to impose travel restriction was due to the outbreak of coronavirus. It is a preventive step to contain it. In such large gatherings, if one person is affected, it will spread to others. So we fully understand the concerns of the Saudi Government," Muhammed Faizy added.

He said that the Hajj Committee only processes the requests of annual Hajj visit pilgrims and not Umrah.

"This year we expect the Hajj pilgrimage season to be from June to August after Ramzan. But it may vary according to the Ramzan date. We are yet to get any official correspondence from the Saudi Government regarding travel restrictions," he added.

The Saudi Arabian Government suspended visas for tourists from countries affected by the coronavirus, with many having to cancel their Umrah pilgrimage at the last minute.
