Rahul revamps Cong K'taka unit ahead of assembly poll

New Delhi, Oct 17: Ahead of next year's Assembly election, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Monday revamped the party's Karnataka unit by appointing 15 district chiefs and nominating a jumbo executive committee.

Rahul also announced a 35-member manifesto committee and made former chief minister M Veerappa Moily its chairman and former Lok Sabha member B L Shankar its vice chairman.

The committee's other members include veteran Margaret Alva, state working presidents Dinesh Gundu Rao and S R Patil, senior ministers Kagodu Thimmappa, H K Patil, M B Patil, Ramalinga Reddy and K J George.Following are district unit presidents: Lakshman Rao Chingale (Chikkodi), Vinay Navalgatti (Belgaum), Rafiq (Bellari City), K Harish Kumar (Dakshina Kannada), Jagadeva Guttedar (Kalaburagi), Syed Ajampeer Khadri (Haveri), M B Shivamudappa (Kodagu), Janardhana Thonse (Udupi), S Gangadhar (Ramanagara), M Rajakumar (Bengaluru North), G Shekar (Bengaluru Central), G Krishnappa (Bengaluru South), Altaf Hallur (Hubli City), Basavaraj Jaab Shetty (Bidar) and G Keshava Reddy (Chikkaballapura).

All-inclusive executive

The executive committee has 94 members with CWC members, AICC officer bearers, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, MPs from the state, former chief ministers, former state unit presidents and former union ministers being included as ex-officio members.

Special invitees to the Executive Committee include all the ministers and chiefs of frontal organisations in the state.

Last week, Rahul had held a meeting with Karnataka leaders, including Siddaramaiah, G Parameshwara, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal, senior leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Moily to review the functioning of the state unit.

The Congress had settled the factional feud in the Karnataka unit by making it clear in May that the election next year would be contested under the leadership of Siddaramaiah. As per the agreed formula, G Parmeshwara quit as Home Minister of the state to focus his energies on his role as President of the state Congress.

@Yogesh: Not even with tampered EVM. BJP has already lost in Gujrat. BJP is so scared of their performance they are already planning for 2019 elections. People of India knows - fake development model of gujrat by now. Even feku stopped saying gujrat model and we make India into another gujrat.

And BJP wont get anything in Karnataka

Family of deceased covid-19 patient beats up ambulance driver

Bengaluru, Jul 31: An ambulance driver was thrashed by the family members of a 75-year-old COVID-19 patient who passed away on his way to the hospital in Bengaluru on Thursday.

The incident happened after the patient died in the ambulance while waiting in front of the MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru.

The driver was dragged out of the ambulance and chased around by a relative.

His clothes were ripped off and harangue were hurled at him. The relative was seen shouting and blaming the driver for the patient's death.

Speaking to news agency, the driver said that he was unable to explain the sequence of the protocol which was to be followed while getting the patient to the treatment ward.

Karnataka is one of the worst-affected states by the coronavirus pandemic. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the state has 67,456 active cases as of Friday.

The state government has been struggling to contain the spread of the disease as it has intermittently imposed and eased lockdown measures, especially in the capital Bengaluru.

Karnataka stops covid-19 testing for asymptomatic international travellers

Bengaluru, May 28: The Karnataka government has done away with previously mandatory COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic international travellers.

The development comes a day after the government issued a circular, which allowed placing of international travellers into home quarantine if they had completed seven days of institutional quarantine.

A circular signed by Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, dated May 27, says that any “person who has completed seven days of institutional quarantine and is asymptomatic can be permitted for home quarantine with a COVID-19 test (RT-PCR), subject to undergoing a medical check-up.”

This check-up equates to thermal screening (with a required temperature of under 37.5C or 99.5F and pulse oximetry of under 94%).

The circular added that all elderly people, over the age of 60, and those with comorbidities (such as Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, heart ailment, renal disease...etc) are “required to be clinically evaluated diligently prior to shifting them for quarantine.”

On Wednesday, Pankaj Pandey, Commissioner, the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that these new guidelines were based on recommendations from the COVID Task Force. A member of the COVID Task Force said that new strategies had been formulated based on the latest findings on how the SARS-Cov-2 virus affects people.

Karnataka NRI Forum Jeddah repatriates 177 stranded Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia

Jeddah: The first chartered flight for repatriation passengers from Jeddah to Bengaluru organized by Karnataka NRI Forum Jeddah – Saudi Arabia was successfully landed at Bengaluru airport by 01.00 am on 19th July 2020.

Spice Jet (SG9884) departed from King Abdul Aziz International Airport Jeddah by 05.00 pm local time with 177 stranded passengers which includes 12 Pregnant Woman, 3 infants, 44 Short term visa holders, 3 medical emergency patients and 115 migrate workers and labours from various districts of Karnataka state.

Karnataka NRI Forum Jeddah, a registered charitable organization under Government of Karnataka & Indian Consulate Jeddah - Saudi Arabia, helping the Kannadigas overseas & in Karnataka State as well, has initiated major role for helping stranded Kannadigas to travel back to home. During Pandemic hundreds of stranded Kannadigas were approached to the forum and requested to arrange special chartered flight to Bengaluru from Jeddah.

Initiating from collecting the data of passengers, the forum’s special panel including its President Mr. Mohammed Mansoor, Secretary Mr. Peter Mascarenes, Vice Presidents Mr. Nasir Khurshid, Dr.Ashfaque Maniyar, Chief Coordinator Mr. Shaikh Saoud, Cultural Secretaries Mr. Arifulla Shariff and Mr. Rajesh Suvarna, Treasurer Mr. Habib Rahman and Press Secretary Mr. Baig, the forum’s members have worked very hard to conclude this task very successful.

The forum provided food packets as refreshment, complementary PPE kitsto each passenger as precaution against the spread of any infections while travelling and also guided all passengers by supporting them in Awdha portal (Saudi Passport Department) and Seva Sindhu portal registration of Government of Karnataka.

All passengers have reached safely to their homes after completing the 7 days institutional quarantine at Bengaluru. 100% passengers had NEGETIVE report on Covid-19 test made on arrival as well as after institutional quarantine.
