Tipu Jayanti will spell doom for Cong: BJP

Bengaluru, Oct 24: The BJP on Monday continued its tirade against the state government for its decision to celebrate Tipu Sultan Jayanti on November 10, even as the ruling Congress accused the saffron party of double standards on the issue.

“The Tipu Jayanti will spell doom for the Congress government in the 2018 polls,” BJP Yuva Morcha state president and MP Pratap Simha said at a state-level convention organised by the Anti-Tipu Sultan Jayanti Forum here. “There was a fire mishap on the sets of a serial on Tipu Sultan that filmmaker Sanjay Khan was doing. Vijay Mallya, who bought Tipu Sultan’s sword, lost his business. Similarly, Siddaramaiah is celebrating Tipu Sultan and his political empire, too, will fall,” he said.

From October 25 to November 10, the Anti-Tipu Sultan Jayanti Forum will stage protests and rallies, its convenor Addanda Cariappa said.

The Congress, however, defended the Tipu Jayanti. “Tipu Sultan was a patriot. No one can change history,” former Union Minister C K Jaffer Sharief said. “BJP leaders are opposing Tipu Jayanti to appease a few people,” he said. KPCC president G Parameshwara, too, hit out at BJP. “Their opposition only shows their mentality.”

The Congress recently released a picture of BJP leader Jagadish Shettar participating in a Tipu Sultan Jayanti when he was the chief minister, accusing the saffron party of double standards.

Siddaramia is upset over the PM's statement This means money will be released for states that don't support the Centre's development agenda. development and not for publicity gimmicks like Tipu Jayanti. Why not a Purnayya Jayanti, Vishweshwariyya Jayanti, N.R. Narayana murthy Jayanthi? They have done more for the state and the country than Tipu.

LOL .. literally ROFL .. 'Tipu Sultan was a patriot' .. because he fought against the British ? It was just a bid to survive the British .. simply because my enemy fought another enemy of mine maketh not a friend.
To call him a patriot .. what does this 'sultan' have in common with India and its culture ? Too much liberalism in selectively interpreting history of invaders and colonizers.

Bellary, Jan 4: A BJP MLA has apparently threatened 'minority' Muslims against participating in anti-CAA protests, saying that opposing the new Citizenship Act will not be good for them and they will have to face serious repercussions.

"It's just a caution for those who are protesting against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act). We are 80 per cent and you (Muslims) are 18 per cent. Imagine what will happen if we take charge," MLA Somashekar Reddy told a gathering here on Friday.

"Beware of the majority when you live in this country. This is our country. If you want to live here, you will have to, like the Australian Prime Minister said, follow the country's traditions," he added.

He said: "So, I warn you that CAA and NRC are made by Modi and Amith Shah. If you will go against these acts, it won't be good."

Continuing to spew venom, the MLA further said, "If you wish, you can go to Pakistan. We don't have any issues. Intentionally, we would not send you."

He said that the community should live in harmony with Hindus. "If you will act as enemies, we should also react like enemies," he said.

Earlier, Bengaluru BJP MP Tejaswi Surya reportedly called CAA opposers as "puncturewalas".

The nation has been witnessing massive protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has specifically stated that the NRC was never discussed.

When the black and white photos of the ‘London to Calcutta (Kolkata) bus service’ went viral on social media recently, the response of some of the netizens was “stop spreading fake news!” But, it isn’t a fake news. The late 1950s indeed offered people a lavish bus trip from London to Kolkata.

While one of the viral images shows passengers at the Victoria Coach Station, London, boarding 'Albert', the other image show the same bus travelling through a valley. In another image the bus is stationed at a tourist spot. All these photos were captured during the bus’ maiden international journey in 1957.

An image of the bus ticket is also making rounds on social media, that shows the route of the bus — London, Belgium, West Germany, Austria,Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, West Pakistan, India. The route in India followed Delhi, Agra, Allahabad, Banaras and finally Calcutta.

The ticket shows that a one side travel cost 145 pounds (13,644 Rupees at the present day) back then, and it was inclusive of all the luxury provided during the run.

The luxurious bus provided the facilities of reading, individual sleeping bunks, radio/taped music for parties and pleasure and fan heaters, among other things. The brochure reads, "Your complete home while you travel."

Some of the tour highlights included Banaras on the Ganges, The Taj Mahal, The Raj Path, The Rhine Valley and The Peacock Throne. Passengers reportedly got free shopping days in New Delhi, Tehran, Salzburg, Kabul, Istanbul and Vienna.
