‘Right-wing activist’ booked for trying to sexually abuse 5-year-old girl

Kasaragod, Oct 26: Police have launched a manhunt to nab youth who allegedly trying to sexually abuse a 5-year-old girl at Kottapara in Panyal village in Kasaragod.

The accused has been identified as Prashanth (30) a truck driver hailing from Pullur, near Kanhangad. He is said to be a right wing activist.

Acting on a complaint lodged by a Childline activist, the Bekal police on Wednesday registered the case against him under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act- 2012.

The complaint alleged that the youth had tried to sexually abuse the minor girl by luring her into an auto-rickshaw the other day, following which the girl’s parents approached the Childline office.

Bengaluru, Jan 16: Members and activists of social organisation Rakshana Vedike on Thursday staged a protest and demanded the arrest of BJP MLA Somashekhara Reddy, for his 'provocative' remarks and statements.

The protesters gathered near Gandhi’s statue near Maurya circle in the city and demanded that the BJP MLA should be arrested immediately.

The protesters alleged that Reddy’s remark were aimed at inciting communal hatred and that his remarks do not do justice to his being an elected representative of the people in the state assembly.

Bengaluru, Feb 26: The Karnataka Pre-University Board issued a five-page booklet on Coronavirus ahead of the forthcoming examination to spread awareness among the students, the Board said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Board said that the booklet contains details on symptoms of the disease, measures to be taken in case of an outbreak and other information. The Board has directed the Directors in all districts to disseminate the information to students through college principals.

The PUC examination begins from March 4 and continues till March 23.

Bengaluru, Jun 24:  Karnataka on Wednesday reported 397 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the total number of positive cases to 10,118.

According to the State Health Department, with 14 more deaths today, the state's toll has reached 164. While, 6,151 people have been discharged so far.

Hundred per cent of Community Health Centres, 50 per cent of Primary Health Centres and Urban Primary Health Centres will be converted as exclusive 'fever clinics' to screen fever cases for influenza-like illness (ILI)/severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), Karnataka Health Department said.
