Mangaluru: Cops seize nearly 12 kg ganja, arrest two peddlers

Mangaluru, Nov 19: Intensifying anti-drug drive, the Mangaluru city police have arrested two more persons and seized 11.7 kg of ganja from them.

Acting on a tip off, sleuths of the Mangaluru East Police, raided an old building near the old Mangaluru Rural Police Station and seized the contraband.

The police gave the names of the arrested persons as P. Raghu, 36, and Prakash, 26, both from Belur in Hassan district.

The police said that the accused had reportedly procured the cannabis from Andhra Pradesh. They were bringing it to the city in a car from Sakleshpur.

Bengaluru, Mar 13: District administration in Kalaburagi, where the first death in India due to COVID-19 was reported, has identified over 25 people, who come close to the deceased and quarantined for observation, Minister for Health B Sreeramulu said on Friday.

In reply to a debate on the issue during Zero Hour of the Legislative Assembly, the Health Minister said that two members of the victim’s family and 23 others are suspected of COVID-19.

Mr. Sreeramulu said all the schools of the district have been as a preventive measure to contain the deadly virus.

Mangaluru, May 5: The principal of St Agnes College, Mangaluru, Sr Dr Jeswina AC attained superannuation after 28 years of dedicated and fruitful service.

Sister Dr Venissa AC, the associate professor of the department of Economics, has been appointed by the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society Management as the principal of the college. Sister Roopa Rodrigues AC. has been appointed as the vice principal.

Sr Dr Venissa AC was earlier serving as the vice principal at St Agnes College.

The college and the management has thanked Sr Dr Jeswina AC for the dedicated services she has rendered to the college.

Puttur, Jul 7: A woman died after a wall of compound collapsed on her in Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday, July 7. 

The victim was identified as Vasanti.

The wall got weakened due to heavy rain at Golithottu area in Puttur. Her body was sent to the post-mortem.

According to the police, the incident took place around 12.30pm when Vasanti was working in the backyard of her house.
