Belagavi, Nov 16: Health Minister KR Ramesh Kumar assured the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that the government will arrive at a final decision by today evening on the controversial Karnataka Private Establishments (KPME) Bill, which doctors across the state are vehemently protesting.

"I'm meeting the Chief Minister this evening to find a solution," Kumar said, in response to the Opposition BJP highlighting deaths of patients across the state due to the shutdown of outpatient services in the wake of the doctors' strike. The BJP accused the government of being lax, holding Kumar responsible for the deaths of patients.

Kumar strongly defended the Bill and maintained it was in the interest of patients, especially the poor. "We are not against doctors, the medical profession or medical institutions," Kumar said. "No one is highlighting the death of patients when they can't afford treatment. But deaths of patients due to doctors' protest is all over the news," he rued.

The minister rejected the BJP's accusation that it was a matter of prestige for him to get the Bill passed. "The government has an open mind as far as the demands of the doctors are concerned," he said. He also denied reports that he would resign if the Bill was not passed.

Doctors should cooperate with this. I think some doctors dont have any issue. The doctors who own hospitals having trouble more. because they cant charge more. Otherwise the institution may pay to the doctors who working under somebody institution. The risk is while considering the treatment refund for unsuccessfull one

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 2: The twin coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi witnessed sporadic movement of vehicles and relatively less commercial activities today in spite of the withdrawal of ‘Sunday lockdown’ by the state government.

After the central government announced guidelines under Unlock 3.0, the Karnataka government has removed the complete lockdown concept on Sundays and done away with the night curfews too. So from today (August 2), there will be no lockdown on Sundays.

KSRTC operated its buses as usually. However, compared to other days, today the number of private and city buses on the roads in Dakshina Kannada was limited.

In Udupi, city buses remained off the roads as the number of passengers was less. However, KSRTC and NARM buses were seen transporting passengers.

In containment zones ban on movement of people will continue till August 31 in Udupi. The Santhekatte market used to function on Saturdays, as there was Sunday lockdown on earlier Sundays. Now the market will be open on Sundays only.

Mangaluru, June 10: The first direct repatriation flight from Damma to Mangaluru International Airport under Vande Bharat Mission will be operated on June 21.

Thousands of people from coastal districts of Karnataka are stranded without flights in different parts of Saudi Arabia after the announcement of covid lockdown in March this year.

Even though the government of India launched Vande Bharat Mission to repatriate Indian expatriate through special flights, no flight was scheduled from Saudi Arabia to Mangaluru.

Several organisations had exerted pressure on the government of India and government of Karnataka to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia.

With the sole intention of helping the stranded Kannadigas, a few philanthropists in Saudi Arabia last month formed an NGO called Saudi Kannadigas Humanity Forum under the leadership of Zakariya Bajpe and Sheikh Expertise.
