Rottweiler bites college student; street dog mauls pregnant woman

Mangaluru, Nov 19: At least four persons suffered injuries in separate cases of dog attacks in Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks in last three days.

On Saturday, a Rottweiler dog jumped the compound and bit a BBM student without any provocation at Patrao Lane in Mangaluru city. 

On hearing the student's cries, the dog's Shalini Rai, who runs a paying guest facility, and her neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued the student.

The injured student questioned Shalini why the dog had been left unchained. The verbal dual intensified and Shalini allegedly used foul language, following which the student filed a police complaint.

Three incidents in Bantwal

In Bantwal, a pregnant woman and a student were attacked by a street dog on Saturday. The woman was treated at Wenlock Government Hospital in Mangaluru while the boy was administered treatment at the government hospital in Bantwal.

On Thursday a street dog had mauled a 50-year-old woman at Bhandaribettu village in Bantwal taluk. Hemavathi was on her way to beedi branch when the dog chased and bit her near Krishna Bhajana Mandir. She was treated at the government hospital in Bantwal.

Shivamogga, Feb 24: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday said that he has been invited at the banquet hosted for US President Donald Trump at Rashtrapathi Bhavan on Tuesday, but, he is yet to decide on his presence.

“I have been invited, but I have various engagements and work, let’s see. I have not yet decided on what to do. It is true that I got the invitation,” he told reporters here.

"President of a powerful and rich country like United States of America visiting India is not a normal thing. He (Trump) has said that he personally shares good relationship with Prime Minister Modi and has confidence in him…let’s wait and see", Mr Yediyurappa said in reply to a question.

Mangaluru, Mar 16: As a precaution against the spread of Covid-19, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Monday decided to cut down its premium, non-AC sleeper, Rajahamsa and express bus services from Mangaluru to Bengaluru and Kasaragod following poor patronage.

The cut down in services is as per the direction of KSRTC's Central office that wants bus services to be operated on priority.

KSRTC Mangaluru Divisional Controller S N Arun said that the corporation has decided to cut down 40 trips to Bengaluru. Concerning Kasaragod, it has reduced the number of trips from 40 to 35. "These include a reduction in services to Mysuru and Dharmasthala also," he added.

Bengaluru, Mar 31: The total number of positive cases of coronavirus reached 101 in Karnataka on Tuesday after 13 more positive cases were reported in the state from March 30 5 pm to 2 pm today.

The total number of 101 includes three deaths and 8 discharged/cured cases, Karnataka Health Department stated.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 1,397 after 146 new patients were reported in the last 24-hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.

Of this little less than 1,400 cases, there are 1,238 active while 124 cured. The total figure also includes 35 fatalities.
