Mangaluru: Woman killed, over 20 injured in Nanthoor serial accident

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A woman was killed and more than 20 people injured in road accident occurred at Nanthoor Circle, the junction of National Highways 66 and 75 in the city on Thursday morning.

A private bus plying from Malali near Gurupura to the State Bank bus terminus in city collided with a speeding truck at the Circle at around 7:15 a.m.

The truck was moving from Udupi towards Kasargod on NH 66. After colliding with the bus, the truck moved to the right and hit a car coming from Kasaragod direction.

Kavitha (45), a woman on board the bus died on the spot in the accident while over 20 other passengers suffered injuries. Kavitha was working as a helper at the Government Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru. The condition of some of them is said to be critical.

Bus driver Syed Arfan also suffered severe injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Manglauru. Mangaluru East Traffic Police have registered a case and are investigating.

Accident at Bondel

In a separate incident, a bus rammed into a tractor at Bondel and injured its driver. The injured tractor driver has been identified as Shivananda (30) from Uttara Karnataka.

The tractor toppled and suffered major damages in the accident. Sleuths of Mangaluru East Police Station visited the spot and registered a case.

Hassan, Jul 16: In fresh incident of cast killing, a Dalit youth in Alur taluk of Hassan district was shot dead yesterday by the relatives of the girl with whom he was in love. 

The deceased identified as Madhu, a 30-year-old resident of Soppinahalli village. He had taken a 25-year-old girl with him and was planning to marry her after taking her family into confidence.  

The relatives of the girl, who belong to upper caste, claimed that Madhu had kidnapped the daughter of one Ramesh of the same village. The girl's uncle Rupesh had waylaid Madhu when he was on the way to the field and shot at him. 

The body of the deceased as been shifted to a mortuary. The accused Rupesh has gone absconding. Sources said that the family of Ramesh has strongly opposed the inter-caste marriage.

Udupi, May 30: A total of 45 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients, including 17 children were discharged after recovery from the designated hospital in Udupi.

This comes as a big relief amid the rising number of cases in the district.

A total of 164 cases has been confirmed in the district so far.

Bengaluru, Apr 17: Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, married Revathi, grand-niece of former Congress Minister for Housing, M Krishnappa, on Friday.

According to sources, more than 100 people participated in the marriage ceremony held at Kumaraswamy's farmhouse in Kethaganahally, Ramanagara.

There were around 50-60 members from former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's family and more than 30 people participated from Revathi's family, sources added.

This comes in the middle of a nationwide lockdown which has been imposed to deal with the coronavirus threat.

Earlier, HD Kumaraswamy had said that the marriage ceremony would be held behind closed doors in the presence of family members.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy, who contested the Lok Sabha election from Mandya, is also the national youth wing president of Janata Dal-Secular.
