Mangaluru, Dec 9: Karnataka Bank on Saturday organized a walkathon in the city to create awareness about banking among the general public and popularise its financial inclusion initiative. The walkathon, aimed to popularise digital banking and other banking products, coincided with the bank's ongoing CASA Campaign from November 15, 2017 to February 28, 2018.

“Though the country has completed more than 7 decades of independence, forty percent of population is still not covered under formal banking system. This march is conducted to promote Honourable Prime Minister’s mission to provide banking facility to all the citizens of the country especially un-banked population in remote villages and rural areas and thus realise financial inclusion in its true sense,” stated a release issued by the bank.

Karnataka Bank chairman P Jayarama Bhat flagged-off the march at the bank’s old head office building at Kodialbail in the city. Managing Director and CEO Mahabaleshwara M S and other executives of the bank led the walkathon which culminated at its head office premises at Mahaveera Circle, Pumpwell.

Speaking on the occasion Mahabaleshwara M.S, MD & CEO, said “The major objectives of today’s road show are to promote financial literacy, popularise customer friendly products of the Bank, convey the importance of savings habit and create awareness about the safety measures to be adopted in digital banking, etc. The road show assumes significance in the context of demonetization and digitalization drive launched by Govt. of India.”

“Bank is fast moving into the next generation of banking, offering the best products in line with latest developments happening in the digital technology space to on-board the unbanked sections of the society.  We are sure that this initiative will help in increasing the financial awareness among public and contribute towards strengthening the economy of the country. The initiative will be replicated in other major cities of the country in the months to follow,” he said.

Jayarama Bhat said “Major share of the branches of the Bank are located in villages and rural areas. The Bank has always treated it as its responsibility to offer banking services to rural population. Bank today enjoys the trust of its customers due to the consistent support that it has extended to them over the years. We hope to strengthen this bond with various customer centric initiatives. We believe that this march is a “Walk towards our Customers”. I wish all the best to this initiative.”

India once had best GDP without banks and digital money. It is time to go back to Gold and Silver as money and get rid of banks and bankers who eats the wealth of the people for every transactions they do. Charging of interest on money is a sin and it is un-natural.

Ernakulam, May 25: Miscreants belonging to self-proclaimed Hindutva outfits have demolished a church set erected for the shoot of a Malayalam film at Kalady in Kerala’s Ernakulam district.

The set was erected to shoot the climax scene of the super hero film Minnal Murali, directed by Basil Joseph and starring Tovino Thomas and newcomer actor Femina.

The incident took place on Sunday. Members of the Antharashtra Hindu Parishad claimed that with the help of their sister outfit Antarashtra Bajrang Dal, they demolished the church set, erected on an island on the Periyar river in Kalady.

Hari Palode, the General Secretary of AHP, an organisation founded by Praveen Togadia, boasted on Facebook that they were not used to pleading to anyone, and decided to demolish the church set that was constructed near the Adi Sankaracharya mutt.

“When they built such a structure in front of the Mahadeva shrine in Kalady, we said no. We had also submitted several complaints. We do not have the habit of pleading. We decided to demolish it. Our self respect must be protected at all cost,” AHP’s General Secretary Hari Palode wrote on his Facebook post along with pictures of members demolishing the set.

The post also credited members of the Anrarashtra Bajrang Dal and its Ernakulam Division President Malayatoor Ratheesh for participating in the ‘service work’ of razing the church set.

Mini Biju, member of Kalady Town panchayat confirmed that the film unit had indeed secured permission from the department before going ahead with the construction of the set.

“They had submitted a letter seeking permission to raise a temporary set. This was back in February before construction began. The panchayat committee had approved this request,” Mini said.

Bengaluru, Jun 14: Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar on Sunday said there was no question of reimposition of the lockdown amid speculation that it would be done.

"The question of lockdown is not in front of us. There is such speculation as the Prime Minister is holding a video conference with all Chief Ministers on June 16 and 17.

On June 17 our state will be taking part in it at around 3 pm," Mr Sudhakar said in response to a question.

Speaking to reporters at Kalaburagi, he said the current situation would be discussed in that meeting. Mr Sudhakar said the Prime Minister has repeatedly been holding such video conferencing exercises to take stock of the situation and plan for the future.

"There will not be a lockdown anymore according to me," he added.

There has been speculation that there would be another shutdown from this month owing to a rapid rise in the number of cases.

Bengaluru, Mar 18: Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Wednesday met the Director-General of Police in Bengaluru and demanded police protection for Madhya Pradesh Congress MLAs and the removal of BJP workers from the hotel in Bengaluru, where the legislators are currently lodged.

"The (Madhya Pradesh) legislators have come here and have requested police protection, that is all. Let the police give them protection, our candidate (Digvijaya Singh) has come, let him meet the legislators. Why are BJP workers protecting them? We know that they are under threat and hence we need to vacate them (BJP workers)," Shivakumar told reporters here after the meeting.

"We will give protection to our men and that is why we are telling them they cannot stop us. They should be in a free and fair position. I have communicated to DGP that BJP needs to vacate," he added.

Earlier today, Congress' Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh was placed under preventive arrest after he sat on a dharna near Ramada Hotel here, allegedly for not being allowed by police to meet the 21 Congress rebel MLAs lodged in a hotel.

"I am a Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh, voting is scheduled for March 26. My MLAs have been kept here, they want to speak to me, their phones have been snatched, the police is not letting me speak to them saying there is a security threat to MLAs," Singh told reporters.

Singh who sat on the dharna with a face mask on said: "We were expecting them to come back, but when we saw they're being held back, messages came from their families...I personally spoke to five MLAs, they said they're captive, phones snatched away, there is Police in front of every room. They're being followed 24/7," Singh said.

The development comes amid the political crisis in Madhya Pradesh after the exit of Jyotiraditya Scindia from the Congress party.

Scindia's departure was followed by 22 Congress MLAs resigning from the party as well as from the state legislative Assembly.

The resignation of these MLAs has left the Kamal Nath government below the majority mark.
