Vote split: After SDPI, Owaisi’s AIMIM haunts Congress in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Dec 13: Even as the ruling Congress in Karnataka has been trying to Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), snatching Muslim votes in 2018 assembly polls, Hyderabad’s influential politician Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to enter the poll fray in the state.

AIMIM, which has been eyeing Muslim votes across the country, is capable of eating into the Congress’ traditional Muslim vote base. Political observers believe that such a development would help Bharatiya Janata Party to win the polls.

Meanwhile, the Congress, which had reportedly reached a secret pact with JD(S) and SDPI in recent Karnataka by elections and easily defeated BJP, has planned forging a similar alliance or reaching a tacit understanding with Owaisi.

According to sources, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has tasked Chamarajpet legislator B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan with this responsibility. Khan is slated to join the Congress by ditching the JD(S).

Owaisi, however, seems to be playing his cards close to the chest. While he confirmed that the ruling Congress, specifically Zameer Ahmed Khan, was attempting to reach out to him, he was not forthcoming on his party's stand on the Congress' offer.

"Zameer Ahmed Khan had sent some persons seeking a meeting with me," Owaisi, who represents Hyderabad in the Lok Sabha revealed. He said his party was yet to decide the number of seats it will contest in the upcoming election. "Our state unit headed by Usman Ghani is working everything out. Our leaders are holding discussions to identify segments where we should field candidates," he said.

The firebrand leader is also miffed with Khan. "All these days, Khan was critical of me. I have seen videos of him censuring me. But, he wants to meet me now that he's moving to the Congress," Owaisi said. "I told people who came to me that Khan should first decide what he really wants."

Owaisi has been critical of the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government for "not allowing him to address a public meeting in Karnataka."

In the 2015 BBMP elections, the AIMIM fielded 29 candidates mostly in Muslim-dominated pockets of the central, southern and northern parts of Bengaluru.

The party won 29 out of the 78 seats it contested in the recent Uttar Pradesh municipal polls. It won 11 seats in the Nanded Municipal Corporation polls in 2012 and emerged as the second-largest party in the Aurangabad civil polls with 26 seats in 2015.

Smaller parties such as the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) are another cause of concern for the Congress as they can potentially split Muslim votes further. The SDPI, for instance, has won 72 seats in the gram panchayat elections. It polled 15% of the votes in the BBMP elections and managed to wrest the Siddapura ward from the Congress.

There are 25-26 Assembly constituencies in Karnataka where Muslim votes are the deciding factor, according to political analyst Harish Ramaswamy. "If the AIMIM enters in a big way, coupled with smaller parties polarising votes, the Congress certainly stands to lose," he said.

Abdul samad and Abdul Ghanim,

You said, Congress did not do anything in 70yrs. Perhaps Cong took 70yrs to harm all these.

BJP did all these killings in few years, is not enough against 70yrs by congress.

How you are comparing. All minorities should join hands together and choose only 1 best party that can go for all. This is the only way you distroy corrupt ideologies of BJP.

Concentrate to ERADICATE  the  crazy ideology of BJP. Choose their few like minded leaders and change them.  and not to  destroy them.

If  you slowly change them, they are for you.

SDPI is popular in karnataka than AIMIM. If SDPI and AIMIM joins together then chances of getting some seats are very high.

Mumbai, May 30: Former Bollywood actress Zaira Wasim has deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts after being heavily trolled for quoting from the Quran while talking about locust attacks.

"So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood: Signs openly self explained: but they were steeped in arrogance -- a people given to sin. --Qur'an 7:133," Zaira had tweeted.

Soon, she started receiving hateful comments from netizens who interpreted her post as a justification of the locust attacks. They felt that Zaira was suggesting that the incident is God's way of expressing wrath.

Shortly after being deluged with such comments, Zaira Wasim deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

However, a section of netizens continue to attack Zaira on her Facebook page, where she put up the same post.

Commenting on the post, a user wrote: "Lady you must have taken into account of those people of JK, Kerala and elsewhere who are also suffering from the virus. Moreover the crops which are damaged by locust had no name as to who will consume them. In this hours of crisis please post something which is positive and reflects your education."

Another user shared: "So according to you, with all due respect every year on the same time period, Allah send locust to India to destroy the crops of poor farmers who are not even involve in the industrial rise, who don't use vehicle to destroy the nature, and Allah send locust only to harm the poor farmers and not the rich one who actually destroy nature."

"So those farmers who lost there fields of crops and will probably go into debt and may also commit suicide, those farmers who feed the nation, who feed you and every one, are sinners?" asked yet another user.

However, there were a few on social media who felt Zaira had done nothing wrong.

"Quoting Quranic Verse is not a crime... Why is every Indian abusing @ZairaWasimmm. She didn't mention any particular nation or religion. I request everyone please stand with #ZairaWasim. She needs our support. #ISupportZairaWasim," goes a tweet.

Bengaluru, Feb 27: The Centre has adopted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mantra of "Make in India', for India and the world" to build strong defence and security infrastructure in the country, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh after inaugurating the new Light Combat Helicopter Production Hangar at Helicopter Division in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Complex here on Thursday.

According to an official statement, the Defence Minister said in the last five years, India has made significant progress towards manufacturing military equipment indigenously under the 'Make in India' initiative.

Stressing that the defence industry plays a major role in the economic development of the country, Singh lauded the significant contribution of organisations like HAL.

Highlighting the Rs 35,000 crore exports target set for the coming years, he expressed confidence that HAL, through its various platforms, will contribute significantly to achieve this milestone.

According to the statement, Rajnath Singh commended HAL for being the backbone of the Indian Air Force and meeting the requirements of the Armed Forces.

"The HAL has excelled both in operations and finance in the last five years. It has achieved operational clearance on seven platforms, including Light Combat Aircraft and Light Combat Helicopter, and overhauled platforms like Hawk and SU 30 MKI," he said.

He also appreciated that HAL had a turnover of Rs 19,705 crore till March 2019 and it gave shareholders a healthy dividend of 198 per cent.

HAL also apprised the Defence Minister on the progress of the new design and development programme of indigenous Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH), the statement informed.

The full-scale mock-up was showcased to Rajnath Singh. The IMRH is proposed as a replacement to the existing medium-lift helicopters such as Mi17's, Kamovs and Seakings which will phase out in the next eight to ten years.

LCH is a 5.5-tonne class combat helicopter designed and developed by HAL. It is powered by two Shakti engines and inherits many technical features of the Advanced Light Helicopter. LCH has the distinction of being the first attack helicopter to land in Forward Bases at Siachen, 4,700 mts above sea level with 500kg load.

Bengaluru, Feb 18: A 26-year-old Kannada singer committed suicide over alleged dowry harassment on Monday. Sushmitha, a playback singer who got married to Sharath Kumar about one-and-a-half years ago, hung herself from the ceiling at her parent's home in Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru on Monday.

The singer sent a Whatsapp to her brother and mother before hanging herself early morning on Monday. She accused her husband and his relatives of dowry harassment in her death note.

According to Bengaluru Police, the singer has accused her husband, his sister and his aunt of harassing her for dowry in her death note. On Monday morning, Sushmitha's brother alerted the police after he found her dead body hanging from the ceiling. She used her dupatta to hang herself.

Sushmitha had lent her voice for Kannada songs in films like Haalu Thuppa and Srisamanya.

Police informed that Sushmitha sent a Whatsapp message to her brother, Sachin, at around 1 am on Sunday and explained that her husband Sharath and her relatives have been harassing her since the time she got married. Sachin read the message at around 5:30am and rushed to her room where he found her hanging from the ceiling.

In the text message, Sushmitha wrote that her husband, Sharath, his sister, Geetha, and his aunt, Vydehi, harassed her and they were the reason behind her ending her life. She also stated that she did not want to end her life in their house and hence came to her parents’ house.

The Annapoorneshwari Nagar police have registered a case of dowry death, charging her husband and his sister and aunt based on complaint filed by Sushmitha’s mother Meenakshi. The three accused are on run after hearing about her death and police said that efforts are on to trace them.

Sushmitha's husband Sharath Kumar is a manager in a car showroom and a resident of KS Nagar in Bengaluru.
