Schoolgirl raped and murdered; cops on hunt for Deepak and gang

Vijayapura Dec 20: Tension reigned in Karnataka’s Vijayapura following the rape and murder of a school girl belonging to Dalit community.

Jurisdictional Adarsh Nagar police has registered a case against Deepak, who is said to be main accused along with five other persons, but the police is still looking for the accused.

Meanwhile Dalit leaders have demanded immediate arrest of the accused. They held a protest till late on Tuesday night by keeping the body of the girl at Ambedkar Circle of the city.  On Wednesday, the family placed the victim's corpse on the road at Ambedkar circle demanding justice for their daughter.

District in-charge Minister M.B. Patil who met the protesters and the family members promised to get Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the poor family. He said that he has directed the police not to show any laxity in the case and not to succumb to any pressure.

Srikant Pujari, president of Dalit Vidyarthi Parishat, has condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. He said Dalit unions were planning to call for a Vijayapura bandh on Saturday.

Kalaburagi, Feb 27: Kalaburagi police has issued notice to AIMIM leader Waris Pathan to appear before the investigation officer to give his statement in connection to the controversial statement that he recently made during an anti-CAA rally.

"We have already served notice to appear and the date is 29th. He is supposed to give his statement. Some people have already recorded their statements," said Kalaburagi Police Commissioner MM Nagaraj.

Recently while addressing an anti-CAA rally in Kalaburagi, the AIMIM leader had said: "Time has now come for us to unite and achieve freedom. Remember we are 15 crores but can dominate over 100 crores."

Bengaluru, Jul 27: Former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday took strong exception to the BJP's celebration over completing one year in office and alleged that people are suffering due to anti-people policies of the state government.

In a tweet on Monday, he said that since the last six months pension due to physically challenged, old age and Widow pensions were not paid. He urged the Government Issue emerge order to release pension amounts immediately. It was shameful on the part of the Government to keep the pension amount being kept pending.

This government has no eyes and ears and claiming only challenging years and transparent government, what examples required for them, he questioned.

Udupi, Jul 14: Kundapura police in Karnataka have booked a case against a businessman who had violated home quarantine rules as many as 163 times.

Accused Sahab Singh had arrived at his rented house at Koteshwara from Mumbai on June 29. He was asked to remain quarantined in his house till July 13. 

However, he was found loitering and visiting hotels in Udupi. Officials tracked his movement through mobile GPS. He breached the quarantine period 163 times. 

Following the violation, Flying Squad officer N G Bhat filed a complaint against Singh in Kundapura Police Station under IPC Sections 269, and 270.
