Mangaluru, Dec 22: A 25-year-old girl, who had escaped from the clutches of her family members at Dhargudde near Moodbidri on the outskirts of the city and eloped with her boyfriend belonging to another community earlier this month, has brushed aside the allegations of ‘love jihad’.

Priyanka’s family members had fixed her wedding with one Dinesh on December 11 against her will. When Priyanka left her home on December 9, her family members and saffron groups had claimed that she was kidnapped by a Muslim boy. Local media had termed it a case of so called ‘love jihad’.

According to sources, a team of police from Mangaluru managed to trace Priyanka and her boyfriend Hyder in Mumbai. The girl has clarified the police that her boyfriend did not even force her to change her religion. She also told police that she was in love with one Hyder for past six years and that she never loved Dinesh.

Sources also said that Priyanka’s family had shifted from Inoli village to Dharegudde in order to force her to end relationship with Hyder and marry a boy from her own caste. When she continued the relationship with her boyfriend, the family had decided to arrange her marriage with Dinesh.

Interestingly, Hyder is also not a practicing Muslim, though he hails from a Muslim family. His family members also had reportedly warned him against marrying a girl belonging to another community saying that it may cause problems to entire family.

Bengaluru, Apr 1: The state government has identified five districts, including Dakshina Kannada, as 'cluster zones' or 'Red zones,' to prevent the spread of Novel Coronavirus.

The other four districts include Mysuru, Uttara Kannada, Bengaluru and Chikkaballapur.

Mangaluru has been under strict lockdown, as it is close to Kasargod in Kerala, which reported many positive cases and is also one of the 'hotspots' in the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) list.

Bengaluru, June 14: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led BJP government of Karnataka has once again urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led union BJP government to release GST compensation worth Rs 10,208 crore that is due for the state.

The request was placed with Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman during the 40th GST council meeting, in which Karnataka Home Minister and state’s representative to the council, Basavaraj Bommai, participated.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Bommai said that Rs 10,208 crore was due from the Centre as GST compensation for four four months - from March to May.

“We have requested the Centre to release Rs 1,460 crore - pertaining to GST compensation for the month of March - as soon as possible due to the dire financial conditions of the state,” he said.

Bommai said that the state was confident that the funds will be released soon, noting that Karnataka had recently received Rs 4,314 in GST compensation for three months, between December 2019 to February 2020.

Meanwhile, the state also proposed the Council to reduce penalty for delay in filing GST. Bommai said that while people are made to pay 18% of the tax as fine in delay in payment, Karnataka has asked the Centre to reduce the percentage by half to 9%.
