T M Shaheed appointed secretary of KPCC

Mangaluru, Dec 30: Entrepreneur and social worker T M Shaheed, who hails from coastal Karnataka’s Sullia taluk, has been appointed as one of the Secretaries of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

A release issued here stated that All India Congress Committee chairperson Rahul Gandhi nominated Mr Shaheed as the secretary of the KPCC following the recommendations by KPCC chief G Parameshwar, chief minister Siddaramaiah, state Congress in-charge K C Venugopal and others.

Mr Shaheed, who belongs to prestigious Thekkil family, has been associated with Congress party for past three decades. He was an NSUI leader during his college days.

He was elected as the president of Sullia taluk minorities’ cooperative society for three consecutive terms. He also served as a member of state wakf board, director of forest development corporation and member of coir board of union government in the past.

He has been active in social, political, religious and cooperative fields for over two decades. He is the founder president of Thekkil rural development foundation and proprietor of Thekkil community hall and Thekkil HP gas.

Bantwal, Jun 29: Seven SSLC students, who were on their way to write the examination, were injured in a road mishap near Panemangaluru on Monday.

According to sources, the auto-rickshaw in which the students were travelling overturned causing them injuries.

All the injured were students of Shambur Government high school.

Police said the accident took place as the driver lost control over the vehicle.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Special Investigating Team (SIT), headed by Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sandeep Patil, subjected former underworld don turned social activist Muthappa Rai in connection with gangster and underworld don Ravi Poojary's criminal cases.

Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) said that the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Venugopal and police inspector Bulletin have questioned Rai in his house for more than two hours about Ravi Poojary case.

Muthappa Rai was allegedly one of the accused in builder Subbaraju murder case. They both were allegedly close in the initial days and they were like a team, said a senior officer. So Rai was questioned about their connection. Rai, who reformed himself many years ago, is into business and social service at present.

Mangaluru, Feb 7: To stop the NRC and CAA from being implemented everyone has to fight unitedly highlighting the failures of the ruling party, said National President of Priyadarshini squad, All India National Women’s Congress Kavya Narasimha Murthy.

Addressing the workshop for the protection of Citizenship against CAA, NRC and NPR for the party workers at the Cordel Hall, Kulshekar here Thursday by district Congress party, she said, “Protests are being held everywhere against the CAA, NRC and NPR but if we only go on protesting, the ruling party will implementing divisive policies and new laws every day.

Many think that they may not be affected by the CAA, NRC or NPR and keep away from protesting against it. The congress should fight against the CAA concentrating on three approaches. We cannot fight against divisive politics by fighting only against the CAA and NRC. We need to expose the government’s failures, their divisive politics and continue our protests against the CAA, NCR and NPR.”
