Davanagere, Jan 3: State BJP President B S Yeddyurappa alleged that MLC Basavaraj Horatti 'is indulging in selfish politics, by using the issue of separate religion status for Lingayats, to his advantage'.

Speaking at the Renuka Mandir, here in the city on Wednesday, Yeddyurappa said that Horatti was making confusing statements by stating that BJP MLAs support the demand for separate religion tag to Lingayats.

"As for the issue of granting a separate religion status to Lingayats we are bound to adhere to the views of the Akhila Bharata Veershaiva Mahasabha and those of the Siddaganga seer Shivakumar Swamiji," Yeddyurappa added.

"It is the work of the Congress to split society and castes. BJP MLAs are united in their views on the separate religion issue. Horatti is unnecessarily creating confusion," the former CM alleged.

Seers meet

MLC Basavaraj Horatti has fixed a date for the public debate on the issue of separate religion tag to Lingayats at the Rudrakshi Mutt, Belagavi.

A meeting of many mutt seers was held to decide whether to attend Horatti's meeting or not.

Rambapuri Peetha seer Prasanna Renuka Veerasomeshwara Swamiji, Srishaila mutt Channasiddarama Panditharadhya Swamiji, Balehosur Dingaleshwara Swamiji and others important seers participated.
