Mangaluru, Jun 6: Karnataka’s Minister for food, civil supplies and consumer affairs U T Khader has urged the BJP leaders to ask the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led union government of India to ban Popular Front of India instead of staging protests and demanding the Congress government of Karnataka to ban the outfit.

Speaking to media persons here, the Congress leader said the onus of banning organisations like PFI is on the central government since such groups operate from multiple states including Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The state will also keep tabs on such organizations, said the minister in a query as to whether the state government will ban PFI and other organizations.

"All organizations that are linked to criminal activities should be banned. However, action should be taken by the central government since such organizations operate not only from Karnataka, but also from other states. Hence, the Centre should take a stand in this regard. In the meantime, the state government also will have to consider the matter seriously," Khader said.

Mangaluru, May 17: Former health minister U T Khader demanded that the authorities carry out a scientific analysis of the five deaths that occurred due to Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada.

“The number of fatalities vis-à-vis the number of positive cases in the district is worrying, and the district administration and health department should not take the matter lightly. Lapses, if any, in dealing with the co-morbidity factors should be addressed, lest it become a major health challenge,” he warned.

Addressing reporters on Saturday, Khader, said only carrying out such types of analysis will help the health department combat the spread of the novel coronavirus in the future. “At present, the only data available with the health authorities here and in the state war room, is the number of people tested and number of positive cases,” Khader said.

“Any strategy to combat Covid-19 must be built around scientific analysis of causes of how the disease is spreading and to do so, concrete efforts must be made to find the source of the cluster at the First Neuro Hospital in Padil. A analysis of reasons that caused the deaths, will also come in handy for the authorities to prepare suitable advisories for the people, who in turn could take informed decisions,” Khader noted.

The leaders of Farmers' Union (Raith Sangh) also staged a protest at Mahaveer circle and questioned CM's stand as he took oath in the name of farmers.

The district congress staged a protest at the premise of the Deputy Commissioner office in Shivamogga city.

The protesters termed Karnataka Government led by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa as an anti-farmers government.

According to Congress and Raith Sang, the proposed amendments to Karnataka State Land reforms act 1961 will cause harm to farmers.

"According to the proposed amendment, non-agriculturists like business tycoons can also purchase the agriculture land. This will help the businessman and will be harmful to farmers," protesters said.
