Ahmedabad/Jaipur, Jan 16: There was high drama on Monday when Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international working president Pravin Togadia, who went "missing" after Rajasthan police came calling with an arrest warrant, was "found" from Kotarpur in Ahmedabad by an unidentified caller in an unconscious state. He was admitted to Chandramani Hospital in Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, with low blood sugar.

As VHP men rented the air with 'Jai Shri Ram' after Togadia, who gets Z-plus security, director of Chandramani Hospital Dr Roopkumar Agarwal said, "Togadia was shifted to hospital by EMRI 108 emergency service around 9.15pm in a semi-conscious state suffering from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). After he was given treatment, his condition stabilised. He is not in a position to give detailed statement, but will soon be well."

Additional Commissioner of Police (Sector-II) Ashok Yadav said: "Togadiya was found with low blood sugar. We will know the details when he is in a position to give a detailed statement."

Togadia's hospitalisation brought curtains down on the day-long drama albeit with several questions remaining unanswered, primary being the whereabouts of Togadia all through Monday.

The day saw VHP leaders allege "foul-play" when Togadia went missing from the VHP office after Rajasthan cops came calling with arrest warrant. Gujarat VHP general secretary Ranchhod Bharwad, who had alleged that Togadia was picked up by cops, raised questions over his safety after both Rajasthan and Ahmedabad police claimed that Togadia was not in their custody. Bharwad filed a complaint for missing person to the Ahmedabad crime branch on Monday evening.

Around 8.30pm, EMRI 108 got a call that a man in his 60s was found unconscious in Kotarpur. The man was shifted to Chandramani Hospital and identified as Togadia.

"The great news is that Togadiaji has been found. He is stable but not in a position to speak. Doctors have asked that he should be allowed to rest. Police will conduct a detailed probe into the incident," Bharwad said.

There were tense moments amid rumours of Togadia being picked up by Rajasthan police in connection with a case of disobeying government's orders in 2002 even as suspicion deepened over the "missing" leader after cops denied his detention or arrest.

Ahmedabad police confirmed that Rajasthan cops had come to arrest him in an old case of disobedience to public order but denied his detention or arrest. Police claimed Togadia was last seen early on Monday morning and was untraceable ever since.

JK Bhatt, JCP (crime), told mediapersons that Rajasthan police team had come to Sola police station at 10.45am on Monday to serve the arrest warrant. "A local police team had accompanied Rajasthan cops to Togadia's residence but he was not found there. We then inquired at VHP office in Paldi where State Reserve Police jawan on duty said Togadia had left at 10.45am on Monday in an auto with a bearded man," said Bhatt.

Jay Shah, a close aide of Togadia and VHP spokesperson, said: "Recently attempts were made by certain elements of RSS and BJP to remove Pravinbhai from the post of working president of VHP. While those attempts failed, he is being targeted being the lone Hindu voice pressurizing for building Ram Mandir and issues like conversion and love jihad."

As per Rajasthan police, Togadia had held a public meeting in Gangapur city in Sawai Madhopur district in April 2002 despite a ban on his entry. Yogendra Faujdar, additional SP, told TOI: "Togadia had flouted the order of CrPC Section 144 for unlawful assembly. Thus, a case of IPC Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) was registered against him."

"Police teams had visited Ahmedabad several times to serve summons. When they could not be delivered, a bailable warrant was issued. When that also could not be delivered, an arrest warrant was issued against him a fortnight ago. A team visited Ahmedabad with the warrant. The team went to Togadia's residence but he could not be found," said Faujdar.

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 9: The Kerala government has set up five COVID-19 helpdesks for non-resident Keralites in countries which have a substantial number of Pravasi Malayalis.

Addressing a press conference here Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said: "In order to address the concerns and issues faced by the non-resident Keralites, we have set up five dedicated COVID helpdesks in countries where we have a substantial number of Pravasi Malayalis."

The helpdesks started by Norka Roots will be managed locally by persons and voluntary organisations active among non-resident Keralites. The Kerala government has requested the Indian Ambassadors in various places to cooperate with these helpdesks.

The Chief Minister also informed that online medical services would be made available to the non-resident Keralites through the Norka Roots website.

"Pravasi Malayalis can consult prominent doctors in Kerala by audio or video calls through the website, with prior registration. The services of various speciality doctors will be available from 2 pm to 6 pm IST," he said.

Currently, registration for the Norka Pravasi ID card is only available for the Malayali expatriates residing or working abroad for a period of not less than six months. "Now students from Kerala studying abroad can also avail this facility. The overseas student registration service would enable them to get Insurance benefits and discounts on flight tickets. This registration will be mandatory for all students presently studying abroad as well as for those going abroad, from now on," Vijayan said.

The Pravasi ID card is a multi-purpose photo identity card that entitles every non-resident Keralite to avail all services and facilities offered by Norka Root. The card comes with an add-on Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) coverage. Two prominent airlines are offering a discount on the base fare for air tickets booked by Norka Id card holders.

Srinagar, Mar 7: Two more accused, including a man who allegedly bought chemicals online for making improvised explosive device (IED) to be used in an attack on a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama last year, were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday, an official said.

The terror attack left 40 CRPF personnel dead in south Kashmir's Pulwama last year.

Waiz-ul-Islam, 19, from Srinagar and Mohammad Abbass Rather, 32, from Pulwama were arrested by the NIA, taking the number of those arrested in the case in the past week to five.

"During initial interrogation, Islam disclosed that he used his Amazon online shopping account to procure chemicals for making IEDs, batteries and other accessories on the directions of Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists," the official said.

He said Islam personally delivered the items to the JeM terrorists after buying them online as a part of the conspiracy to carry out the attack.

"Rather is an old overground worker of the JeM. He has disclosed that he gave shelter at his home to Jaish terrorist and IED expert Mohd Umar after he came to Kashmir in April-May 2018," the official said.

Rather also sheltered other JeM terrorists - suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar, Sameer Ahmed Dar and Kamran, a Pakistani -- at his house before the Pulwama attack, the official said.

"He also facilitated safe shelter for the JeM terrorists, including Adil, at the house of accused Tariq Ahmed Shah and his daughter Insha Jan of Hakripora, who were arrested on March 3," the official said.

He said Islam and Rather will be produced before the NIA special court in Jammu on Saturday, while further investigation in the case continues. The NIA took over the case to probe the conspiracy behind the February 14, 2019, attack in Pulwama.

The last video of Adil, which was released by the JeM from Pakistan after the terror attack, was filmed at the home of Tariq Ahmed Shah. On February 28, the NIA achieved a major breakthrough in the case when it arrested 22-year-old Shakir Bashir Magrey, a furniture shop owner and resident of Pulwama.

Magrey had given shelter and other logistical assistance to suicide bomber Adil. He was introduced to Adil in mid-2018 by Pakistani terrorist Mohammad Umar Farooq and he became a full-time OGW of the JeM.

The explosives used in the attack were determined through forensic probe to be ammonium nitrate, nitro-glycerin and RDX. During investigation into the attack, the identity of the suicide bomber to be Adil Ahmad Dar was confirmed through DNA matching with that of his father.

The other key terrorists involved in the attack have been found to be JeM's south Kashmir divisional head Muddasir Ahmad Khan, killed in an operation by the security forces on March 11 last year; Pakistani terrorists Muhammad Umar Farooq and IED expert Kamran, both killed on March 29 last year; the owner of the car Sajjad Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Anantnag who was killed on June 16 last year, and Qari Yassir, JeM's commander for Kashmir who was killed on January 25 this year.

New Delhi, Feb 23: Dreaded underworld don Ravi Pujari, operating from overseas, has been reportedly arrested in South Africa and efforts are on for his deportation to India.

Pujari, who parted ways with underworld don Chhota Rajan, had jumped bail from Senegal, last year and had escaped to South Africa, where he was involved in big-time drug trafficking and extortion racket.

Sources in Indian Intelligence said that Ravi Pujari, who was hiding with a false identity of Anthony Fernandes, a Burkina Faso passport holder, was located in a remote village in South Africa.

On a tip-off from Indian external intelligence agency, the Senegal police air dashed South Africa last week. Pujari, 52, wanted in over 200 cases of heinous crimes, including murder and extortion, was detained with the help of South African agencies.

Sources in Mumbai Police said that Pujari's arrest has not yet been confirmed officially but Ministry of External Affairs is in touch with its mission in South Africa. An official in MEA refused to speak on the issue. Embassy of Senegal in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, also did not respond to IANS' queries in connection with Pujari's arrest.

The mafioso first came into news in early 2000 when he started extorting huge amounts from famous Bollywood personalties and builders. He was involved in an attempt to murder case, aimed at killing a prominent lawyer of Mumbai.tip-off

Pujari's wife Padma and three children also fled India and some of them hold Burkina Faso passport. His son who was recently married in Australia reportedly holds an Australian passport.

Earlier last year Ravi Pujari, living under the identity of Anthony had jumped bailed from a Senegal court through fraudulent means. IANS had accessed the don's new passport. Pujari now goes under the name of Anthony Fernandes and is a citizen of Burkina Faso, a West African country, his date of birth is shown as 25.1.1961.

Pujari, a movie junkie influenced by Amitabh Bachchan's portrayal as Anthony Gonsalves in 'Amar Akbar Anthony' was using the name, Anthony Fernandes. This passport was issued on 10.7.2013 and is valid till 8.7.2023. The passport showed his profession as Agent Commercial which means that he is designated as a businessman running a chain of restaurants Namaste India in Senegal, Burkina Faso and neighbouring countries.

Pujari's lawyers in Senegal had argued in the court citing that he is Anthony Fernandes, a businessman from Burkina Faso as mentioned in his passport and not a fugitive as claimed by the Indian Government.

Clearly indicating a collision between top government functionaries of Burkina Faso and Pujari in which an influential Indian businessman, who is his partner in a restaurant chain, may have played the role of a conduit.
