Bengaluru, Jan 27: Siddaganga Mutt seer Shivakumar Swami underwent a surgery on Friday where three stents were inserted into his liver tube.

The 110-year-old seer was operated upon at 3.30 pm at the BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals in Kengeri. The surgery took around 40 minutes.

According to the doctors who performed the surgery, this is the fourth such procedure on the seer, who has five stents from earlier operations.

"This time, the three stents were inserted within the previous stents," said Dr Ravindra B S, chief of medical gastroenterology, BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals.

He added that the seer was shifted to the ward at 5 pm and is under observation.

A team of eight doctors conducted the endoscopy procedure, he said.

"Swami is diagnosed with pneumonia, kidney issues, blockage of the liver tube and now has low blood pressure. He has to be under observation for the night before he is discharged," said Dr Ravindra.

The seer was admitted to the hospital at 9 am on Friday.

He was brought to the hospital with complaints of fever, low blood pressure and low oxygen levels since the previous day. He has also had a persistent cough for the past two days.

The doctors had run tests, including CT scan, ultrasound, and X-rays.

In September 2017, the seer was admitted to the same hospital, with initial diagnosis showing that he had problems with the kidneys and pancreas, infection in the lungs, gallbladder, and liver, with an obstruction in the liver tube.

He was also found to be suffering from jaundice. Dr Ravindra and his team had stabilised him, and further diagnostic tests were conducted to completely assess the situation.

After the assessment, the doctors had decided to insert two more stents in addition to three stents which were inserted in May to clear the blockage in the liver tube.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa visited the pontiff at the hospital and enquired with doctors about his health.

Bengaluru, May 25: After facing flak from the opposition for skipping quarantine rules to contain COVID-19 spread, Union Minister Sadananda Gowda on Monday said there are certain exemption clauses for those who hold certain responsible posts, adding that he cannot go under quarantine as he has to ensure medical supply in every part of the country.

"Guidelines are applicable to all citizens, but there are certain exemption clauses, for those who hold certain responsible posts," Gowda told media on being asked about allegations by opposition parties that he did not go to required institutional quarantine after domestic air travel from Delhi to Bengaluru.

"I am a Minister and I am heading Pharmaceutical Ministry. If the supply of medicines and other things is not proper then what doctors can do for patients, is it not a failure of government? It' is my responsibility to ensure the supply of medicines to each corner of the country," he said.

Earlier in the day, the BJP MP, who arrived at Bengaluru airport from Delhi and straight away got into his car and drove to his residence. He skipped the institutional quarantine measures as set by the Central government.

Karnataka Director General of Police Praveen Sood said: "Incoming domestic flight passengers from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh will undergo 7-day institutional Quarantine followed by home quarantine."

Feb 28: The Supreme Court on Friday granted more time to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a counter affidavit on a petition filed by Karnataka BJP leader and mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy seeking permanent relaxation on his bail condition to allow him to visit Karnataka's Bellari and Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh.

A bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Indira Banerjee listed the matter for further hearing on March 16 after the CBI sought more time to do file the counter affidavit.

Earlier, the apex court had issued a notice to the CBI and sought its response on the plea.

Last year, the Court had allowed Reddy to visit the Ballari district for a period of two weeks to meet his father-in-law, who the petitioner claimed had suffered a stroke and also allowed him to move a bail modification application seeking permanent relaxation of his bail condition.

In January 2015, the Supreme Court had granted bail to Reddy in an illegal mining case involving Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) on the condition that he will not visit any of the mining zones in Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh.

By the time he was granted bail, Reddy had already spent over three years in prison.

Reddy and his brother-in-law BV Srinivas Reddy, who was the Managing Director of OMC, were arrested by the CBI on September 5, 2011.

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Congress is confused on the Ram Mandir issue and in dilemma to take a firm stand fearing loss of Muslim or Hindu votes, according to BJP leader and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

"Congress opposed BJP's stand on constructing Ram Mandir in Ayodya, it called Lord Ram fictional and even decided to break the Ramsetu. Now, Congressmen are speaking the other way. Congress cannot think beyond vote bank politics which is in its DNA itself. Congressmen think that they are born to be in power," he said while speaking to media persons.

He said that BJP is all for constructing a grand Ram Mandir peacefully and legally, due to its conviction and not for politics. Same was the case with the revocation of Article 370 for Jammu & Kashmir. Anti-national activities have comparatively come down now.

Some people do not want everything going smoothly in the country, and Congress and Asaduddin Owaisi are among them, Joshi opined, adding that the Congress is merely frustrated.
