Priya Varrier’s wink is an answer to saffronists’ protest against Valentine’s Day: Jignesh

Firebrand Dalit leader turned MLA Jignesh Mevani has used winking star Priya Prakash Varrier’s viral video clip to counter Sangh Parivar’s opposing to the celebration of Valentine’s Day in India.

Extending his wishes on Valentine's Day with the viral video of Malayalam actress, Mevani tweeted: “Viral hit of ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ is the answer to RSS's Valentine’s Day protest and again Indians have proved that they like to love more than hating someone.”

Sangh Parivar and other saffron outfits have been opposing celebration of Valentine's Day for years now.

Organisations like the Hindu Mahasabha, the Sri Ram Sena, the Bharat Sena, the Shakti Sena and the Bajrang Dal have been indulging in immoral policing against young couples and students in different parts of India, who wish to celebrate the Valentine's Day expressing their love their partners, year after year.

They have unleashed violence in the name of such protests against Valentine's Day celebration, vandalising public property and thrashing whoever they assume are 'couples'.

These groups may not be formally aligned with the RSS but RSS leaders have, too, spoken against celebration of Valentine's Day. RSS Leader Indresh Kumar, in June 2017, even said that "the reason behind rape, illegitimate children and all other atrocities against women is the the "western" tradition of Valentine's Day". However, the RSS has never, by itself, protested against celebrating Valentine's Day.

‘Should send 'Chaddi Sena' on border for one month’

Jignesh Mevani also took a dig at RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for saying that the Sangh will prepare a force to fight for the country within three days for which Army would take months.

"Should send Mohan Bhagwat with 'Chaddi Sena' on the border for 1 month... They should know what work Sena does and what problems they deal with," Mevani Tweeted reacting to Bhagwat's comment.

Bhagwat had made the remarks while addressing the RSS organisation in Muzaffarpur's districts school. "Sangh will prepare military personnel within three days which the Army would do in 6-7 months. This is our capability," he had claimed.

Bengaluru, Jan 22: JD(S) president HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday termed the surrender of the accused in the alleged planting of an explosive at Mangalore Airport as another act of a drama and said that the incident should serve as an Eye-opener for the Prime minister Narendra Modi over the prevailing unemployment problem in the country.

Addressing a press conference, the Janta Dal (Secular) leader said that the surrendered man, who had allegedly planted explosive at the airport, was an employed youth and PM needs to address the prevailing unemployment problem in the country.

The former chief minister said that the accused have higher education qualifications and belonged to the Hindu community, disapproving that only people belonging to the Muslim community resort to violence.

Dubai, May 12: Free tickets are being offered by philanthropists and businessmen based in the UAE for deserving Indians who want to fly home.

Repatriation ticket prices have been set at around Dh700 to Dh750 per person depending on the destination. But there are many in UAE who cannot afford it, especially people who have lost their jobs or have medical concerns.

Malayalam Communications Ltd and its Malayalam stations (Kairali TV & Kairali News) are giving away 1,000 tickets free. Those who wish to apply can submit their application to [email protected].

Indian businessman Dhananjay Datar, chairman & managing director of Al Adil Trading Company, is also giving away 300 tickets. He is liasing with the Consulate General of India (CGI) for the names. “This is the time we need to rise as a community,” he said.

Besides taking care of airfares, Datar will also bear the cost of COVID-19 testing fees for Indians from the UAE.

“The repatriation efforts undertaken by the government of India is one of the largest initiatives. I am just doing a small bit to help the community. There are many people who are not in a position to meet the airfare and COVID testing costs as they have lost jobs. I will be coordinating with authorised entities handing this to lend my support,” he said.

Pravasi India Forum, a welfare organisation in UAE, is giving away 100 tickets. The NGO on Monday, May 11, uploaded a registration form where people can provide their details. “Tickets will be given to those approved by CGI and for those who are in financial distress,” said Abulaise, president of Pravasi Welfare Forum.

Need for more flights

The gesture notwithstanding, many Indians are still waiting to get news on their repatration.

Social worker Shukoorali Kallangal, President, Abu Dhabi Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), urged the government of India to add more flights to accommodate more passengers.

“Emergency repatriation services are the need of the hour. There are several expats with medical, financial distress. For those who came with the hope of a job – that too is a thing of the past now. Right now all they want is to go home and start something afresh there.”

Kallangal said: “Take the case of pregnant women. In many cases, their husbands have lost jobs or have been asked to go on unpaid leave. They are living hand to mouth and cannot afford medical costs. Due consideration should be given to them.”

Sreedharan Prasad, another social worker based in Ras Al Khaimah, said he is currently dealing with several emergency medical cases.

Consul General of India Vipul said plans are afoot to add more flights in the next phase of Indian repatriation. “The number of flights are being decided by India in consultation with state governments. This is not a normal situation we all are in. We are in the middle of a pandemic situation.”
