Bengaluru, Feb 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address at least four rallies in three weeks in poll-bound Karnataka.

According to sources, the PM will participate in BJP rally in Mysuru on February 19; in Davangere on February 27; in Bijapur on March 4; and in Raichur on March 13.

Top sources in the party said the Bijapur rally would take care of the Bombay-Karnataka region, which has 50 constituencies.

The Raichur rally would be important for the Hyderabad-Karnataka area, which has 31 constituencies.

“Party president Amit Shah will be in Karnataka for three days, from February 20, and will mostly travel around the coastal districts, where the BJP is strong but came a cropper in 2013. There are many issues to be addressed organisationally and politically there,” a senior source in the party said.

The northern parts of the State, where Mr. Modi will address the rallies, is dominated by the Lingayat community, a mainstay of support for the BJP and its chief ministerial candidate B.S. Yeddyurappa.

Certain sections have demanded that it be considered a minority community and not be classified as Hindus. Chief Minister Siddharamaiah has backed the plea, but the BJP has been maintaining a studied silence on it.

Several senior leaders from other parties are expected to join the BJP in the next few days, sources said.

Bengaluru, Jun 28: Karnataka Minister for Medical Education Dr K Sudhakar faced criticism by netizens after he shared a TikTok video sent by his daughter and wife, who are currently undergoing treatment in a COVID-19 facility.

TikTok is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based internet technology company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming.

Dr Sudhakar’s father, his wife and daughter who tested positive for Covid-19 has been admitted to a designated facility and in order to make his birthday memorable, his daughter sent him greetings through TikTok video.

When the minister shared the TikTok video, people pointed out that the minister should know better and that he should urge his family to boycott the Chinese video-sharing platform and lead by example.

Many were miffed that a BJP leader put up a TikTok video at a time when tensions are running high between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

Mangaluru, Apr 13: Struck by the boredom of lockdown imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus, a 17-year old was caught on Sunday trying to sneak his friend out of his apartment complex by stuffing him inside a suitcase, police said.

"A minor, aged 17-years-old, a resident of Orchid Apartment, Balmatta invited his friend, a resident of Motisham Apartment, Pandeshwar to stay with him on April 11, Saturday," said PS Harsha, the Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru.

The friend wanted to return back to his apartment in Pandeshwar the next day but due to strict security put in place, he got inside a large trolley suitcase. Security guards at the apartment, however, got suspicious when they noticed the wobbling of the suitcase that was being wheeled to the gate.

Based on the suspicions, security personnel alerted the residents of the building and opened the suitcase from which they were shocked to find the boy's friend stepping out. Police were later called in.

A case has been registered against the two minors at the East Police station, police said adding that the duo will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
