Udupi, Mar 5: Cleric-cum-politician Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan has called upon the Muslims to get united and emerge as a political power in the country rather than being divided and becoming slaves of various political parties.

The founder of the Uttar Pradesh-based Ittehad-e-Millat Council was speaking after inaugurating the Unity Convention hosted by the Udupi Zilla Muslim Okkoota on Sunday, March 4 at Beedinagudde here to create awareness among Muslim community and remind them about their responsibility towards nation building.

“You should present your demands before political parties and support the party which fully assures to fulfil all your demands. You have to utilize the political parties for the welfare of the community. Do not allow the political parties to utilize you and treat you like a mere vote bank,” he advised.

Stating that a true Muslim will always love his country, he said that Muslims need not to care when certain vested interests question their patriotism for political reasons.

“You (Muslims) are not traitors. Your religion (Islam) doesn’t allow you to become traitors. Those who spread hatred against you and call you traitors and anti-nationals are the real traitors and anti-nationals,” he said.

Simple thing is in India if a muslim protests or kills then he is branded as terrorist but if non-muslims do the same they are naxals. I just want to know how many Army personnel and citizens have Naxals massacred.

Tightening control over companies misleading advertisements of medicines and products, the Indian government could soon slap a fine of up to Rs10 lakh and up to two years' imprisonment. While repeat offender could be fined up to Rs50 and imprisonment up to five years.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's new draft of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) (Amendment) Bill, 2020, provides extremely stringent penalties compared to the current law.

Under the new Act, companies advertising medicines and products falsely claiming to make a person fairer, improve height and memory or cure issues like hair loss or greying and premature ageing, among several others, may attract more stringent fines and jail time.

The current Act, 1954, leaves scope for companies to create deceptive advertisements as first time offender can be jailed for six months while repeat offender can be up to one year in prison, reported The Indian Express.

Under the Bill, deceptive advertisements will cover digital advertising, notice, circular, label, wrapper, invoice, banner and poster, among others. The government also plans to expand the scope of the law under the proposed amendments to cover 24 more deceptive claims not included in the current law, like medicines that can cure AIDS, change the sex of a foetus, among others, reported Livemint.
