Bengaluru, Mar 9: Lokayukta Justice P Vishwanath Shetty, who was stabbed by Tejraj Sharma, has told members of his family that the attacker did not even give him any time to react and, stabbed him.

Justice Shetty's son Shashi Kiran Shetty, senior counsel at High Court of Karnataka, told DH that his father told him on Thursday that he was no way connected with the complaints filed by Sharma.

"His complaint subjects does not fall under my jurisdiction. Lokayukta, Upalokayukta and assistant registrar have different jurisdictions. Basically he (Sharma) has some grievance that his complaint was closed. He came to have a discussion. Soon after entering, he started attacking me. I tried to defend myself,'' Shashikiran said quoting his father.

My father told me that, what evil caused him (Sharma) to take such step as there was no cause or reason. Was there something more than his grievance?. "Can anyone go to such an extreme extent for not given any chance, my father asked me,'' stated Shashikiran.

He said that, his mother Shakuntala V Shetty was still under shock and slowly recovering after she spoke to his father.

The police are yet to record the statement of Justice Shetty. Members of his family said that they are not hiring any Special Public Prosecutor.

Mangaluru, Jun 11: City police on Thursday filed a 700-page chargesheet in connection with the arrest of Aditya Rao, 36, accused of planting an IED at Mangaluru International Airport on January 20.

The chargesheet said the bag placed near MIA entrance had a real bomb, as per the FSL report. The IED in the tin box was made of sulphur, ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate and charcoal.

Rao, an engineer, who learnt bomb-making through online videos, had also placed a timer along with it and sharp objects such as nails and metals. However, he had not fixed wires to trigger a blast. “His intention was not to cause a blast but only to create a scare,” said sources.

The bomb was made in less than two weeks. However, it had taken Rao several days to procure raw materials. Police had completed the chargesheet process in April.

Bengaluru, Jan 13: Right-wing organisations, along with BJP and RSS workers, will take out a massive padayatra in Kanakapura on Monday, protesting against the construction of a Jesus Christ statue.

The event organised by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) will witness a rally from the Aiyappa temple in Kanakapura to the taluk panchayat office, where a memorandum will be submitted to the authorities following a public meeting.

Ahead of the event, Congress leader D K Shivakumar, in a video message released on Sunday, urged the people of Kanakapura to maintain calm. The former minister cast apprehensions over the event scheduled on Monday and said provocative statements may be made to disturb peace and harmony in Kanakapura.

Shivakumar, who represents the Kanakapura constituency, said the motive of the meeting by the leaders and workers of the BJP and the RSS, along with seers of mutts, was to defame his constituency.

“If any remarks are made against me, my brother (D K Suresh) or people of different faiths in Kanakapura constituency, do not be provoked,” he urged.

“Members of the (Christian) community have prayed at the site for 400 years and are trying to install a statue of Jesus Christ. I have helped the community like I aided hundreds of temples and educational institutions,” he said.

Appealing to maintain peace, Shivakumar said that BJP and RSS leaders were free to petition anybody.

The BJP and right-wing organisations have objected to the construction of the statue at Kapala Betta, with the BJP government ordering a probe into how road, power supply and other facilities were provided to the hill. Recently, Christian leaders had petitioned Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to remove any impediments to the construction of the statue.
