Dr Anup A Shetty, Superintendent of Police of Koppal, has lodged a complaint with the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) questioning his sudden transfer.

In the complaint, Shetty, who is yet to complete eight months in his current position, has challenged the sudden transfer.

In his petition, he has termed the transfer orders 'not as per norms'.

CAT has stayed Shetty's transfer order. The date for the next hearing is unknown.

Shetty hails from Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada district. He holds an MSc in agriculture. He obtained PhD from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Uttarakhand.

As the SP of Koppal he has earned the wrath of several politicians through crackdown on illegal sand mining and other illegal criminal activates.

Kasaragod, Jul 22: An accused in a POCSO case jumped into the sea at Kasaba Coast near here on Wednesday.

Sources said the accused Mahesh (28), resident of Soorlu Kanhangad, was brought to the groyne ('pulimuttu' in Malayalam) at the coast for collecting evidence.

He escaped from the police and ran around 200 meters towards the sea and jumped into it. The effort to rescue him also failed.

Police, Fire & Rescue officials and fishermen are searching for the body of the accused.

Mahesh was arrested on charge of capturing the video of a minor girl in a washroom on his mobile.

During interrogation, he had told the copse that he had hidden the mobile, which was used to video record the act, near the groyne. Accordingly, the police had brought him to this place.

Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former Prime Minister and JDS supremo H D Devegowda on Thursday gave a clarion call to party workers to take steps to strengthen the party from the grossroots level and to 'expose the failures' and 'anti-people' policies of BJP government both at the Centre and State.

In an open letter to the workers here, he alleged that the urgent need is to create awareness among the people about failure of the governments which have brought in policies which are deterrent to the poor and downtrodden.

BJP government headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in Karnataka has come up with an amendment to the Land Reforms Act,1961, which is 'against' interests of the small and medium farmers as even a non-agriculturist can purchase agriculture land, thus giving an opportunity to the rich people to 'exploit' illiterate farmers and purchase their land and use it for some other purpose after some time.
