Mangaluru, Apr 5: A week after a cow was allegedly stolen from the Amrutadhara Gaushala at Kairangala in Bantwal taluk, the police on Wednesday managed to arrest two suspects in the case.

The arrested have been identified as Ahmed Kunhi from Varkadi and Basheer from Montepadav. The other accused in the case will be arrested soon, the police said.

The arrests come a day after the Hindu Jagaran Vedike (HJV) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad warned of protests in various places in the Dakshina Kannada district, if the police failed to nab the thieves and traffickers by Thursday.

The operation was led by Prakash B S, inspector, Konaje police station, and Ravi Pawar and Shankar Nayari, PSIs.

On March 29, three men who arrived in a car broke open the lock of the Amrutadhara Gaushala, and allegedly attempted to steal two cows. However, as the caretakers of the gaushala raised an alarm, the gang managed to stuff only one of the cows into their car and fled the spot.

Following this, members of the gaushala, in association with various organizations, began a hunger strike demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

Taking from Gaushala is bit risky. We can see street cows (not in mangaluru - udupi, kerala).. have to steal those cows and should nurture for one month and can seel. It gives more profit

I think Police has arrested two innocents on the pressure from BD and other Sangh parivar parties.   It shows that Police is working as Agent of these sangh parivar goonda parties.   However, in case they did catch the people, i am sure that cows were sold to them by BD goondas as they need money to drink and eat beef sukka.   |This might be a planned work of these goondas as they do always.   First sell cows, get money and then inform Police + other BD goondas.   Police should investigate and catch real culprits behind the issue and should not arrest any one just to make sangh parivar happy.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: A woman suffered critical injuries after a speeding car knocked down her scooter and then ran over her at Kadri Kambla Junction in the city today.

The woman identified as Vanishri Bhat (22) a resident of Kedila from Puttur.

A CCTV footage of the accident, which went viral on social media, shows the car hitting the scooter, pushing the woman on road for a couple of meters before climbing over her.

The car stopped when she was under it. A few people including a policeman lifted the car from the front and rescued the woman.

She was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader’s car which was passing through that way.

She has suffered critical injuries on her head, ribs, hands and legs, sources said. She is reportedly responding to treatment.

It may be recalled that in December last year a lorry-auto accident at the same spot claimed life of a 56-year-old teacher while the auto driver miraculously survived. Following the accident, speed breakers were installed at the junction.

Newsroom, Apr 29: Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, the imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah has hinted that Muslims will be allowed to perform prayers again at the holiest mosque after a few days.

Al Sudais, who is also the president of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, predicted this while answering a question from a reporter about the possibility of having worshippers gather again at the mosque.

He said that soon people will be allowed to return to the mosque for prayers and for circumambulation around the holy Kaaba.

The authorities care about people more than anything else, he said. "All Muslims should pray to Allah to help us through this pandemic. People must be careful and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others," he added.

Newsroom, May 2: The Delhi Police’s move to book Delhi Minorities Commission chairman Zafarul Islam Khan under sedition charges over his social media statement condemning Hindutva bigots has raised many eyebrows.

A pubic statement has been issued in solidarity with Zafarul Islam Khan by a group of NGOs and citizens which condemned the media trial targeting Khan.

The statement demanded legal action against those who are distorting Khan's Facebook post and spreading false propaganda against him.

Delhi Police Special Cell registered the FIR against Khan on the complaint of a Vasant Kunj resident. The complaint came to the Lodhi Colony office of the special cell, after the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Safdarjung Enclave forwarded it.

The investigation has been handed over to special cell inspector Praveen Kumar.

According to the FIR, Khan has been booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code -- 124 A (sedition) and 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc,).

Khan on April 28 had posted controversial comments on his Facebook page. "Mind you, bigots, Indian Muslims have opted until now not to complain to the Arab and Muslim world about your hate campaigns and lynchings and riots. The day they are pushed to do that, bigots will face an avalanche," Khan had written on Facebook.

However, the Delhi Minorities Commission's chief on Friday had apologised for his controversial remark and had said that he never tried to tarnish the image of India. He also removed the controversial post from the social media and issued a prolonged clarification.
