ED notice to B M Farookh over FEMA violation

Bengaluru, Apr 17: The Enforcement Directorate has issued a notice to realtor and Janata Dal (Secular) chief general secretary B M Farookh in a case of FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) violation.

Farookh, who unsuccessfully contested for the Rajya Sabha seat on a JD(S) ticket, has been asked to appear before the ED officials on Tuesday.

Sources said that the notice had been issued to Farookh for FEMA violations in funds invested in real estate. He has been asked to produce his passport, Aadhaar, details of assets and balance sheets of his firms.

With declared assets of Rs 770 crore, Farookh was the richest candidate to contest Rajya Sabha polls from the state in 2016 and in March 2018. Farookh is the younger brother of B A Mohiuddin Bava, Congress MLA from Mangaluru north. Besides real estate business, Farookh has investments in renewable energy sector.

Belgaum, Feb 24: Around 20 people entered a boys' hostel premises in Karnataka's Belgaum with rods and bats and destroyed properties allegedly over ragging of a girl by two hostel residents.

The incident took place on February 23 and was captured in the CCTV camera.

According to Belgaum Police, a gang of 20 people entered Dr BR Ambedkar post metric hostel premises in Belgaum with rods and bats. The group destroyed the properties of hostel, bikes, and scooters.

Police said this is an issue of ragging and during the incident, no students were injured.

Further, the investigation is underway.

Mangaluru, Jul 19: Two flights with 346 stranded Kannadigas from Sharjah and Dammam landed at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) on Saturday night.

MIA officials said on Sunday that the chartered flight from Dammam landed with 178 stranded people, while an Air India flight from Sharjah landed with 168 stranded passengers under the 'Vande Bharat Mission'.

All the passengers on their arrival underwent health checkup and were sent for seven days institutional quarantine. They will undergo swab tests during the quarantine period, health officials said.

Bengaluru, Jun 12: All the four candidates, including former prime minister H D Deve Gowda (JDS), and senior Congress leader Mallikarjna Kharge, on Friday were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.

Karnataka Assembly Secretary sources here said that all the four candidates, who were in the fray for as many berths, were elected after the last date of withdrawal of candidature ended on Friday.
