Mangaluru, Apr 29: The hatred between Congress veteran B Ramanath Rai and Social Democratic Party of Indian has now turned into love and both have entered into wedlock, according to Harikrishna Bantwal, Spokesperson of Dakshina Kannada district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mr Bantwal, who was expelled from the Congress party in 2015 on charge of anti-party activities, joined the BJP in 2017. In last two years he has held a series of press conferences to criticise Mr Rai, the Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology, and a six time MLA from Bantwal constituency.

On Saturday, addressing a press conference in the city, Mr Bantwal said that Mr Rai, who had been claiming for last five years that communal groups would not be allowed to come near him, has entered into a ‘nikah’ with SDPI by paying a huge amount of ‘mahr’.

Mr Bantwal went on to claim that Mr Rai and other leaders of Congress in the coastal district have reached a secret pact with those who murdered Hindutva activists.

“The process of this secret agreement had begun when the Congress government of Karnataka withdrew cases against SDPI and PFI activists,” he said adding that Mr Rai’s true colour has now come to the fore.

It’s worth mentioning here that Bantwal’s SDPI candidate Riyaz Farangipete, who had vowed to defeat Mr Rai in May 12 Karnataka Assembly polls, took a U-turn all of a sudden and withdrew his nomination papers last Friday.

I think Harikrishna Bantwal was the Khazi for this secret wedding. But am worried whether the bride will ditch the hubby by secretly going for honeymoon with the BJP.

Mangaluru, Feb 25: Notorious gangster Ravi Poojary,

who has been extradited to India from Senegal, has 34 cases registered against him within the city police commissionerate.

Now in Bengaluru police custody for interrogation in connection with several cases there, Poojary faces cases relating to murder, murder attempt, extortion and threat calls in the city, police sources said.

Sources said the city police are trying to get Pujari for interrogation though it would take a while as the court has allowed Bengaluru police to keep him in custody for questioning and evidence taking for 15 days.

Most of the cases in the city against him, 28 of them, are in connection with threat calls.

He had allegedly made threat calls in 2015 to the then state ministers B Ramanath Rai and Abhayachandra Jain, demanding immediate arrest of the accused in the murder of Bajrang Dal worker Prashanth Poojary.

All the cases against Poojary in the city were registered between 2007 and 2018.

Cases involving murder, death threats and shootouts are among the cases to be investigated, the sources said.

A total of 28 cases of death threat calls, one of murder, three of shootouts, one of abduction and a case of funding his associates lodged in prison are the crimes being probed by the city police.

The cases are now pending in courts at different stages of trial.

Cases of making threat calls to businessmen using his associates demanding protection money have been registered at Moodbidri, Kavoor, Kadri, Konaje, Barke and Urwa police stations.

Some of his associates were imprisoned in 2012 in connection with threat calls to a businessman from Kinnigoli.

The case relating to providing them money while in prison was also registered in the same year.

Pujari, wanted in many cases including extortion and murder in different parts of the country, including Karnataka and who had been on the run for over 15 years, was deported to Senegal following his arrest and later extradited

He had jumped bail in Senegal last year after being arrested there.

Madikeri, Aug 7: Two days after massive landslides triggered by heavy downpour in Kodagu, five people including a priest are still missing.

The landslide, which originating at Brahmagiri Hills in Talacauvery, swept away two houses on Wednesday night.

This missing people are: Talacauvery temple chief Narayana Achar (70), his wife Shantha (70), brother Ananda Theertha Swami (87) and two assistants — Ravi Kiran (26) and Srinivas (30). Achar’s neighbour had shifted out of Bhagamandala earlier, fearing a landslide.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had to stop rescue operations due to bad weather. The operations resumed today.

“There are many minor landslides on the way to the spot,” said Kodagu Deputy Commissioner C Annies K Joy, adding that the flood situation at Bhagamandala was not permitting earthmovers to reach the spot. Heavy rain between Wednesday and Thursday triggered landslides.

Bhagamandala Panchayat Development Officer Ashok said a notice was issued to the priest’s family to shift out of the house, but they chose to stay back.

On Thursday morning, when the Talacauvery temple staff went to check on Narayana Achar, as he had not reached the temple for the daily puja, they found levelled land and debris where Achar’s house stood. Utensils, puja material and clothes were found nearly 2 km away at Cherangala.

As rains continued over the last few days, many rivers are flowing above the danger levels, forcing people to move to safer places.

Responding to the situation, which is turning grimmer by the day, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital after testing positive for Covid-19, directed ministers to visit rain-hit areas and supervise relief efforts. He has also assured of providing required financial assistance for those affected.
