Ballari, Apr 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday maintained that the Congress government had wasted its opportunity and ‘ruined’ the State during its five-year rule in Karnataka, and appealed to the voters to support the BJP for a better future for the State.

He also sought to touch upon the sentiment of local pride by saying that the Ballari region had a rich history, heritage and was blessed with immense natural resources, but the Congress was trying to besmirch its reputation.

The Congress was running a disinformation campaign in the country and abroad that Ballari was a land of thieves and looters. But the BJP-led government at the Centre had restored the region's glory by printing the stone chariot of Hampi on the Rs-50 note, the prime minister said.

"The Vijayanagar empire had shown the way in punishing the invaders. But the Congress is trying to taint this history for its politics," Modi said and called the state government 'Sidda Rupai Sarkar'.

The Congress has plunged Karnataka in debts, but the ministers' chests are full of wealth. The people of the district and state should hold those in power accountable, he said.

The Congress staged a drama of a padayatra to Ballari, but failed to formulate a mining policy during its five-year rule, Modi said.

He also attacked the state government for utilising only Rs 37 lakh out of the Rs 9,000 crore collected under the prime minister's mineral development project.

Modi attacked UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for forgetting the Rs 3,000-crore package announced for the district after she won the Ballari seat in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP chose Abdul Kalam in the past and Ram Nath Kovind now for the President's post while making Venkaiah Naidu the Vice President. Nirmala Sitharaman is the first woman Defence Minister, he said, adding that all this answers the Congress' criticism that the BJP is a Brahmanic, North India, anti-minority, anti-dalit and male-centric party.

For the past 4 years all Modi has done is  to blame congress with zero development to show.

Now Modi wants the criminal Yeddy who was in jail to be our CM. Reddy brothers who were accused of completely rigging the iron ore mining  and defrauding the government and was in jail. Modi wants these criminals to be  BJP's wining candidates. To save our karnataka please vote for congress!

Bengaluru, Jun 18: The Karnataka police has arrested a German national wanted for kidnapping and causing bodily harm to a person in his home country, an official said on Wednesday. The person was also found to be overstaying on an expired visa, which police said that it appeared that the visa had been tampered with to look more current.

"On receipt of credible information by the CID Interpol Division officers, the Red Corner Notice subject, the German national Alexander Bruno Wehnelt, was traced at Hulimangala village," a police official told media persons.

Hulimangala is on the outskirts of Bengaluru city.

Alexander, 55, escaped from Germany and took shelter in Bengaluru.

The Interpol Division of CBI NCB (Central Bureau of Intelligence, Narcotics Control Bureau) in New Delhi had communicated to the Interpol liaison officer in Karnataka's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) about Alexander, directing extensive search measures to trace the criminal at large.

The Narcotics Control Bureau of Wiesbaden in Germany was on the hunt for Wehnelt for the crimes he committed in 2015, and have finally found him five years later.

"A special team of officers was constituted by the CID - Interpol division under the supervision of ADGP (Additional Director General of Police) B. Dayananda and the Interpol liaison officer and efforts were made to trace the subject," said the official.

On Monday, the police received credible information leading to his arrest.

"It was learnt that his visa had expired in 2016 and he tried to show a visa which was issued in December 2019 which had expired on Saturday, June 13," said the official.

Prima facie, it appeared that Alexander had tampered with his visa and the police are probing on that front as well.

He was handed over to Hebbagodi Police Station in Bengaluru Urban, for his overstay and a criminal case has been registered against him, under the Foreigners Act.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 18: Bindhu Sampath, the mother of Nimisha alias Fathima who travelled from Kerala to Afghanistan to join the Islamic State (IS), has sought the Central government's help to bring her daughter back to India.

"I saw a video of my daughter in which she was requesting her return to India. She has realised that India is her country, not Afghanistan. She is scared that she'll be put in jail over there. Responding to my mail, the Afghanistan government has said that the procedure will take time," said Bindhu Sampath.

"I believe in Indian laws. Let her be questioned and realise what is good or bad. I am waiting for the Central government's confirmation on the matter," added Sampath.

Around four years back, a team of 21 members which consisted of couples and children went to Syria from Kerala to join ISIS and lead an Islamic life. After they left, police registered a case against them, which has been handled by the National Investigation Agency.

New Delhi, April 5: Former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to offer a "credible scientific and rational" explanation for his candle-lighting call and said he is giving "meaningless tasks" to an already exhausted population.

The JD(S) leader questioned if the Prime Minister asked the nation to observe a candle-light vigil on the eve of foundation day of BJP.

"Has the PM slyly asked the nation to observe a candle light vigil on the eve of foundation day of BJP? April 6 being its foundation day, what else can explain the choice of date & time for this event? I challenge the PM to offer a credible scientific and rational explanation," Kumaraswamy tweeted.

"The government is yet to provide PPEs for doctors and make test kits affordable for the common man. Without telling the nation what concrete steps are being taken to combat COVID-19 menace, the prime minister is giving meaningless tasks to an already exhausted population," he tweeted.

"It is shameful to convert the national crisis into an event of self aggrandizement & it is beyond shameful to push the hidden agenda of his party in the face of global calamity. May sense prevail upon the PM," the JDS leader said in another tweet.

Amid a nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, Prime Minister Modi on Friday appealed to countrymen to light diyas and candles on April 5 at 9 pm to fight the darkness spread by the pandemic. He asked the people to turn off all the lights in their homes and stand at doors or balconies and light candles or diyas, torches or mobile flashlights for 9 minutes on April 5.

Last month, PM Modi had asked the people to come out in their balconies and clap and beat utensils to show appreciation for doctors, nurses and others helping fight coronavirus on 'Janata Curfew'.
