Bengaluru, May 19: Shanthinagar legislator N A Haris's son, Mohammed Haris Nalapad, and his friends ferociously assaulted Vidwath L with a knuckle ring, ice buckets, beer bottles, etc at Farzi Cafe, UB City, the victim said in a statement to the police.

Police have attached Vidwath's statement to the charge sheet.

According to Vidwath, he and four friends had gone to the cafe for dinner around 8 pm on February 17. Around 10.30 pm, when they were about to leave, Nalapad's (he didn't know him then) leg brushed against his fractured leg. He told Nalapad: "Brother, kindly watch out and move around." Nalapad suddenly raised his voice and shot back: "You know who I am. I am local MLA N A Haris's son. Who are you to tell me bloody bas***rd? I am Nalapad Haris, you are not at all equal to my shoe. You say sorry and kiss my feet, bloody as*h*le."

Vidwath responded: "No…! Why should I say sorry? You only hit my leg, I got pain."

Nalapad asked his friends to teach Vidwath a lesson and then went on to slap Vidwath a few times. "His 10-15 associates joined in the assault and caused me grievous injuries. I was pushed on the floor and they started kicking me. Nalapad said: 'I will show you who I am. if you don't hold my leg and kiss my feet and if you don't say sorry, then I will kill you here only'."

Vidwath added: "To get away from them, I stood up and pushed Nalapad. But he and his associates threw ice buckets, beer bottles and other things at me. One of them punched me with the knuckle ring in the face, ribs and other parts. I was bleeding and fell to the ground but they kept kicking me and did not spare me."

Nalapad kept egging his friends on. "'Don't leave him alive, finish him, just kill him.' My friends and bouncers at Farzi Café requested Nalapad to spare me but he asked them to go away."

Vidwath's friend Kiran and bouncers tried to get him out of the café but Nalapad's associates wouldn't leave him. They brought Vidwath back to the café and kept assaulting him, according to the statement.

Mangaluru, Jan 27: No power can now stop Kashmiri Pandits from going back to Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday, forcefully defending the NDA government’s decision to reorganise Jammu and Kashmir and abrogating its special status under Article 370.

Addressing a massive pro-CAA, NRC rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party at Gold Finch city, Kuloor, on the outskirts of the city, the Defence minister also sent a strong message to Pakistan and said India will not let anyone live in peace if it is harmed.

"We will not touch anyone, but if someone bothers us, then we are not going to let them live in peace," he said.

Referring to the exodus of a large number of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the late 1990s at the height of militancy, Singh said no power now can stop them from returning to their homes.

On the Citizenship Amendment Act, the minister said it is not a law to hurt the sentiments of any religion but to give relief to victims of religious persecution.

Mahatma Gandhi had told Nehru to give citizenship to minorities like Hindus and Sikhs if they come to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled that vision by bringing in the law, Singh said.

On several non-BJP states refusing to implement the CAA, the defence minister said it it is a central law and everyone should follow it.

Accusing the Congress of misleading people on the issue, he said the party should not forget its duty towards the nation just because it is in opposition.

New Delhi, Feb 20: The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the non-bailable warrants issued against the state Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the Karnataka High Court.

A bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde stayed the non-bailable warrants while hearing a plea filed by the Karnataka government.

Earlier today, the apex court had agreed to hear the matter today itself after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned the matter before it.

Tushar Mehta had pointed that Home Secretary has been asked by the High Court to execute the non-bailable warrants and said that this order is "unusual".

Karnataka High Court had earlier issued non-bailable warrants against the top cops in a case.
