Pavagada, Jun 17: A day after Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy expressed doubts over the longevity of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda on Saturday echoed similar views.

Speaking to reporters in Pavagada after taking part in the inauguration of a temple, Gowda said, “It is God’s blessings that a national party that has won 78 seats has supported a party that won 38 seats. Kumarswamy is pained that he did not get majority. He is suffering a lot because of this. God is testing him, despite giving him power. He has to struggle to pass this exam.”

He said though Kumaraswamy had promised farm loan waiver and pension for senior citizens, he failed to get majority. “The coalition government will surely complete one year. I don’t know what will happen thereafter. However, the Congress has asked Kumaraswamy to serve as chief minister for five years,” he said.

The fissures in the government came to the fore on Saturday with senior JD(S) leader Basavaraj Horatti expressing apprehension that the Congress  was armtwisting Kumarswamy and not allowing him to function smoothly. As a result of this, the coalition government may not last long, he told reporters in Dharwad.

Horatti said Kumarswamy was interested in overall development of the State but the Congress was applying brakes to his model of development.

‘The Congress had proposed formation of a coalition government saying its support was unconditional. But, now the Congress is putting hurdles at every stage. Considering this, Kumarswamy has restricted his tenure as chief minister for just one year” Horatti said.

“The leaders who demanded Lingayat religion have been snubbed by denying Cabinet berth”, he said. Being a senior legislator he should not have been denied a berth in the Kumarswamy Cabinet, he added.

Bengaluru, May 12: In a scathing attack on the ruling BJP in Karnataka and warning the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa government against any move to amend the Labour laws and APMC through an ordinance, former chief minister and JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday asked Mr Yediyurappa to work in the interest of the people and not to budge under any pressure from the Centre or to please party bosses.

Speaking to media here on Tuesday he questioned the urgency to bring forward such ordinances on important subjects and asked the government to have a public debate on it and also discuss it in the assembly.

“I'm warning the government… I have been watching everything silently till now, I have not caused any embarrassment to the government. I want to tell the government, don’t push us to do it,” Kumaraswamy said

Mangaluru, Apr 19: District-in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said that Rs 2000 each has been deposited in the bank accounts of 6,122 construction workers, who are registered with the labour department in the Dakshina Kannada district. The amount will be deposited in the accounts of other registered construction workers at the earliest.

The state government had announced Rs 2000 to construction labourers who are registered and have lost their livelihood due to the on-going nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The curbs, which were imposed on March 24, have been extended till May 3. "The labourers were reeling under hardship after construction activities came to a halt," said the Minister.

Supply food

Local bodies should make arrangements to supply food for stranded labourers, destitutes and beggars in all the ULBs in Dakshina Kannada district, Poojary said.

"No one should starve during the lockdown period. All the ULBs should identify destitutes, migrant labourers in their jurisdiction and arrange food for them. In case of necessity, the help of NGOs can also be taken," he added
The minister announced that Asha workers and health workers would collect information on people's health by visiting the houses in the district and submit a report within 10 days.
