Udupi, Jul 31: Even though the Kasturba Hospital of Manipal submitted the post-mortem report on the death of Lakshmivara Teertha Swami of Shiroor Mutt to the Udupi district on Monday, the experts have kept the “cause of death” section blank, which will be filled up only after reports from the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL).

Sources in the Police Department said that the RFSL report would be available in four to six weeks.

Meanwhile, the police investigating the sensational death case are probing whether the seer was administered poison to save the image of Sri Krishna Mutt, a source privy to the developments said.

According to the source, police have added this as the fourth angle to the case. They have brushed aside all other possibilities for the time being, and are focusing on investigating if an external force administered the poison to the controversial seer.

The Shiroor seer had passed away on July 19 at the Kasturba Hospital in Manipal. The press statement issued by the Kasturba Hospital on the seer’s death, the same day had said that there was “suspicion of poisoning” and the toxicological samples had been sent for test.

Meanwhile, the ‘Aradhane’ ceremony of Lakshivara Tirtha Swami, which should have been held on July 31 (Tuesday) at the ‘vrindavana’ near the ‘moola mutt’ in Shiroor village, about 22 km from Udupi, had been postponed till the police completed their investigations there.

The police have been conducting investigations at the ‘moola mutt’ ever since the Shiroor seer passed away.

Laxman Nimbargi, Superintendent of Police, said that the police had requested the Sode Mutt for the possession of the ‘moola mutt’ for some more days as the investigations were still being done there. The Sode Mutt had agreed to the request, he said. The performance of the ‘Aradhane’ would have led to an invitation for over 1,000 devotees for meals at the ‘moola mutt,’ which would have caused problems for the investigations, hence a request was made to the Sode Mutt, the police said.

If any conspiracy worked out behind seer's demise, then question of security will arise. It proving that anybody can reach near seer and kill easily.

Mangaluru, Jan 15: Popular Front of India leader Mohammed Saqib came down heavily on Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha for justifying the Dec 19 firing which claimed two Muslim lives in the city.

He was addressing a mammoth crowd of around two lakh people, mostly Muslims, who had gathered at Shah Garden at Adyar in Mangaluru today to register their protest against CAA, NRP, NRC, besides police atrocities on Muslims in Mangaluru.

Criticising the way the commissioner handled the situation on December 19, he said the people have all the right to agitate when their citizenship is endangered.

“Two men lost their lives. Then Commissioner started releasing misleading videos (to justify the killing),” he said questioning the top cop: “Who are you? Are you a British?”

“What kind of doctor you are? You are a doctor in creating false stories,” he said whiling taking on the top cop for claiming that protesters had tried to storm the Mangaluru North Police Station.

Bengaluru, Mar 18: Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Wednesday met the Director-General of Police in Bengaluru and demanded police protection for Madhya Pradesh Congress MLAs and the removal of BJP workers from the hotel in Bengaluru, where the legislators are currently lodged.

"The (Madhya Pradesh) legislators have come here and have requested police protection, that is all. Let the police give them protection, our candidate (Digvijaya Singh) has come, let him meet the legislators. Why are BJP workers protecting them? We know that they are under threat and hence we need to vacate them (BJP workers)," Shivakumar told reporters here after the meeting.

"We will give protection to our men and that is why we are telling them they cannot stop us. They should be in a free and fair position. I have communicated to DGP that BJP needs to vacate," he added.

Earlier today, Congress' Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh was placed under preventive arrest after he sat on a dharna near Ramada Hotel here, allegedly for not being allowed by police to meet the 21 Congress rebel MLAs lodged in a hotel.

"I am a Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh, voting is scheduled for March 26. My MLAs have been kept here, they want to speak to me, their phones have been snatched, the police is not letting me speak to them saying there is a security threat to MLAs," Singh told reporters.

Singh who sat on the dharna with a face mask on said: "We were expecting them to come back, but when we saw they're being held back, messages came from their families...I personally spoke to five MLAs, they said they're captive, phones snatched away, there is Police in front of every room. They're being followed 24/7," Singh said.

The development comes amid the political crisis in Madhya Pradesh after the exit of Jyotiraditya Scindia from the Congress party.

Scindia's departure was followed by 22 Congress MLAs resigning from the party as well as from the state legislative Assembly.

The resignation of these MLAs has left the Kamal Nath government below the majority mark.
