Plastic sector demands withdrawal of ban, claims it led to loss of 1 lakh jobs

Bengaluru, Sept 1: Demanding the Karnataka government to immediately withdraw the ban on plastic, hundreds of people belonging to plastic sector yesterday staged a protest at Freedom Park here. The protest was organised by the Karnataka State Plastic Association (KSPA) and related associations and industry.

The protesters alleged that the drive has resulted in a loss of one lakh jobs and Rs 20,000 crore. They demanded that carry bags above 50 microns and plastic covers to deliver goods be allowed. They urged authorities to lift garbage daily and also called for a three-bin culture to be implemented.

“The ban on plastic is unscientific and unjustified as it was imposed without taking into consideration the loss to the plastic industry and its legitimate uses,” said V Vjay Kumar, president of KSPA. “Ever since we have been under the scanner the BBMP officials have raided many retail outlets with police misbehaving with owners,” he said.

“We want the orders to be revoked immediately,” said CR Janardhan, senior vice-president of Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry. “Karnataka produces plastic worth an estimated Rs 50,000 crore. Of this, 60% can be recycled. Exports are suffering because we cannot use plastic bags anymore.”

Pointing out that grocers have taken a massive hit because of the ban, Janardhan said the government should instead focus on how to use plastic so that it does not harm the environment. The protesters took exception to the April 4 government order, which replaced ban on “plastic carry bags” with a blanket ban on all plastic materials used for the purpose of carrying or dispensing commodities.

Ramesh Jain from Garment Industry Association questioned, “We deal in silk clothes and sarees most of the time. How can we keep our products safe without plastic bags?”

I agree with these people.

Plastic bags is a necessity in our daily lives like for buying, fish, meat , dal rice etc. These Politicians  make these ridiculous  rules  of baning plastic, making it very hard for the common people of India.  plastic bags are used for all the necissities in all the countries like US.  Uk, Canada, China etc.

Instead of banning plastic the government needs to learn from these mordern countries how to recycle palastic, paper, glass metal etc.

Bengaluru, May 24: Karnataka Tourism Minister CT Ravi said that coronavirus lockdown has severely marred the tourism industry in the state and the government will revive it in a phased manner.

"It would be beneficial if hotels are opened keeping in mind few restrictions. At present, the tourism industry has fallen flat making it very difficult to promote tourism in the state," Ravi said.

"Our department has planned to promote tourism in a phased manner. In the first phase, we would focus on native tourism; then in the second phase, we will promote inter-district travel; in the third phase, we will put weight behind inter-state tourism and in the fourth phase, we would be promoting international travel and tourism," he added.

Karnataka's COVID-19 count surges to 1,958 with 216 new cases of the virus reported in the last 24 hours, said the Health Department in a bulletin on Saturday.

Out of the total number of cases, 1,307 patients are active cases and 608 patients have been discharged. The total number of fatalities due to COVID-19 in the state has risen to 42.

Social media giant Twitter briefly blocked the Karnataka BJP's account after it posted several provocative tweets and taunted Muslim women.

Ironically, the BJP called its unhygienic tweets as "liberal views". "It is unfortunate that our handle was locked out by Twitter for speaking the truth about liberals," it said.

"A big thanks for your support and encouragement. Satymeva Jayate. Jai Hind," the political party said to its supporters.

However, it did not specify for how long Twitter blocked its account but tweeted again on Wednesday after Monday.

Last week Karnataka BJP drew flak on Twitter for taking a swipe at Muslim women who appear to be standing in a line to vote in Delhi's assembly polls. ""Kaagaz Nahi Dikayenge Hum" ! ! ! Keep the documents safe, you will need to show them again during NPR exercise (sic)," the party's Karnataka Twitter handle posted using the hashtag #DelhiPolls2020.

It tweeted on Monday, accusing Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Sushil Kumar Shinde and Vijay Bahuguna for "cheating" Dalits.

Karnataka BJP spokesperson G. Madhusudhan said that he had no idea about the account being blocked and then unblocked by Twitter.

"What has happened? I don't know," said Madhusudhana.

Reacting to the drubbing BJP suffered in the Delhi Assembly polls, the party tweeted that there is no need to lose heart.

"Now is the time to go back to voters to win their hearts and minds. Let us plan for 2025 from today. We are with you," tweeted Karnataka BJP on Wednesday.

Though BJP congratulated Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for winning the Delhi polls, the party highlighted that it managed to increase it vote share by six per cent compared to 2015.
