Bengaluru, Sept 16: Kannada superstar Upendra, who had to quit his own party, Karnataka Pragnyavanta Janata Party (KPJP) within months after its formation ahead of last assembly polls, is now all set to begin second innings in politics by launching Uttama Prajakeeya Party (I) — UPPI in short.

The controversial actor had entered politics on his 49th birthday through KPJP, is likely to announce the new party on his 50th birthday which falls on Tuesday (Sept 18). If sources are to be believed, he is likely to field candidates in next Lok Sabha polls.

Upendra says he is wiser for his past experience. “I learnt a lesson from the previous experience and have taken enough care before launching UPP(I),” he says.

Ask him about the significance of the “I” in the party’s name, and he says, “I stands for every person who identifies with the party’s ideology.” Upendra is still trying to zero in on a symbol that suits the party’s ideology. Before joining the KPJP, he had dressed in khaki, a symbol of the working class. That party’s symbol was an auto-rickshaw.

Upendra had resigned from the primary membership of the KPJP citing differences with other members. Interestingly, KPJP candidate R Shankar, who won from Ranebennur constituency in this year’s Assembly elections, is a Minister in the coalition government.

He is not fits for politics. Politicians are less selfish people. Because they will loot much and spend very less to people. They wont show their selfishness. Politicians wait for biggest oppotunity. But you spoiled previous attempt due to less home work

Our ruling govt is only interested in RAM Mandir and spending crores of rupees for the temple. Why the other community is not demanding fund from the GOVT?

Not bothered about the development of the country as currently we have no idea how to tackle the corona viurs. Ministers are keen on builing Guest house for pilgrims, Statue of RAM etc etc.

Please concentrate on how to minimise the Virus issue in KARNAKATA like other Gulf countries.

New Delhi, Feb 3: Congress leader BK Hariprasad on Monday condemned BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde's remark on Mahatma Gandhi and termed him as "son" of Nathuram Godse, the assassin of the freedom fighter.

"Only sons of Nathuram Godse can make such comments on Mahatma Gandhi," Hariprasad said.

Hedge had attacked Mahatma Gandhi by calling the freedom struggle led by him a "drama" and also questioned as to how "such people" come to be called 'Mahatma' in India.

"None of these so-called leaders were beaten up by the cops even once. Their independence movement was one big drama. It was staged by these leaders with the approval of the British. It was not a genuine fight. It was an adjustment freedom struggle," he had said.

The Trinamool Congress also lent its support to Congress as its leader Saugata Roy said people like Anant Hegde cause shame to the nation. "We are a supporter of Gandhi and they (BJP) are Nathuram Godse supporters. People of this country should see how BJP MPs are as they insult father of the nation," he added.

BJP leaders too found it difficult to defend Hegde on the controversial remarks.

Senior leader Jagdambika pal was cautious in his defence and said, "The whole world knows about Gandhi and it may be his personal opinion."

Whereas senior BJP leaders avoid commenting on Hegde, Union Minister Ashwani Choubey said that Hegde should not have made the comment and added that Gandhi is a well-respected figure in the nation.

Another BJP MP from Haryana Sanjay Bhatia also tried to shy away from making a direct comment and instead said," Congress did not implement what Gandhi preached. It is Prime Minister Narendra Modi who implemented Gandhi's teachings in letter and spirit."
