JDS-Cong govt is functioning as a commission agent: Yeddyurappa

Bengaluru, Sept 19: Opposition Leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Mr B S Yeddyurappa, who is also State BJP President, made a scathing attack on the functioning of the JDS-Congress Coalition government headed by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and termed it as a 'Commission Agent' and transfers were undertaken by taking commission.

"No file moves without giving bribe. The Ministers are collecting 8 per cent to 10 per cent to pass the Bills", he alleged.

Mr Yeddyurappa was speaking at a meeting in Palace Ground in which his party's all the 104 MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders participated here on Wednesday.

Underlining that even Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara was shocked to see that Transfers were effected at random and without his concent.

"Dr Parameshwara has became a mute spectator as father (former Prime Minister H D Devegowda) and Son (Mr Kumaraswamy) are not allowing him (Dr Parameshwara) to take decision independently whether on transfer in Home portfolio which he is holding or on any other matter," he added.

"The Coalition government is run by Father and Son and nobody, especially Congress Ministers, have any say whether on posting of an honest officer or in any other matter," Mr Yeddyurappa added.

The former Chief Minister alleged that Mr Kumaraswamy is stooping to low level politics by making baseless allegation to the effect that BJP is indulging in 'Operation Kamal' to lure Legislators of Coalition Government and by stating that he was well aware about 'King pins' utilised to lure the Legislators of the Coalition government.

Mr Yeddyurappa alleged that it was Mr Kumaraswamy who tried to lure Mr Malikaya Guttedar in Kalaburagi. Mr Guttedar joined BJP before May 12 election to the Legislative Assembly.

In the meeting the issues including party's need to gear up for the Lok Sabha elections due next year, among other issues were discussed.

Bengaluru, June 5: Under the leadership of trouble-shooter D K Shivakumar, the Karnataka Congress is planning a political ‘ghar wapsi’ to bring back leaders who quit the party and also rope in those from other parties.

Shivakumar, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, has constituted a 12-member committee headed by former minister Allum Veerabhadrappa to liaise to anchor this effort to bring back people into the party fold.

The committee comprises of former legislators B A Hasanabba, Ajaykumar Sarnaik, Abhaychandra Jain, Satish Sail, Prafulla Madhukar, former MPs R Dhruvanarayan and BN Chandrappa, MLA V Muniyappa, former mayor Sampath Raj, Mahila Congress leader Kripa Alva and former KPCC general secretary V Y Ghorpade.

This move comes more than a year after over a dozen Congress MLAs defected and joined the BJP, leading to the collapse of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government. Also, several influential leaders quit the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections last year.

The constitution of this committee also coincides with disgruntlement brewing within the ruling BJP.

“Many people who left the party and others have applied (to join Congress). Many have met me also. I felt it wouldn't be right for me to make a decision. So, this committee has been constituted,” Shivakumar said. “They will process all applications and send it to the KPCC.”

According to Shivakumar, any person wanting to join the Congress should accept the party’s leadership and its ideology. “Importantly, they should be first accepted by the cadre. If there's no acceptance from the cadre, then what's the point?” he said.

Apr 23: An FIR has been registered in Nagpur against Republic TV channel's editor Arnab Goswami for promoting social disharmony and accusing Congress President Sonia Gandhi of orchestrating the Palghar lynching.

Three Mumbai residents, including two sadhus, who were on their way to Silvassa on April 16, were lynched by a mob in Gadakchinchale village of Palghar district on the suspicion that they were thieves. Nagpur Police Commissioner B K Upadhyaya said they received a complaint which was turned into an FIR at Sadar police station.

DCP Vinita Sahu said Goswami has been booked under sections 117 (abetting commission of offence by the public or by more than 10 persons), 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy), 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 153 (B) (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration), 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 290-A (public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for), 500 (defamation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the ipc. Another FIR was filed against him in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

In a statement condemning Goswami, Maharashtra Congress said the killing has been wrongly given a communal angle despite ample proof of the contrary. "At a time when country is fighting against coronavirus pandemic, it is very unfortunate that a section of media as well as politicians are trying to create social unrest... [and] spread racial and religious hatred in society. Goswami has tried to create misogyny against women in the society. He made an outrageous remark against the Congress president on a live TV programme. This is completely unethical journalism and we publicly protest it. We believe in brotherhood and cannot accept such animosity. This will be dangerous for the unity and integrity of the country (sic)," it said.
