Mangaluru, Sept 25: The funeral prayers of Mohammad Sameer who was allegedly murdered a month after returning from Saudi Arabia was held today at Ganjimutt village on the outskirts of Mangalur city. Hundreds of people including his relatives, friends and villagers took part in the funeral.

The tragic end

35-year-old Sameer, son of Ahmed Saheb, a resident of J M Road near Ganjimutt, Edapadavu, had returned home from Saudi Arabia on August 17 this year, almost two months after his wife Firdous gave birth to their first child.

Sameer, who worked in Saudi Arabia for almost a decade wanted to spend rest of his life in India. On September 13 he went to Bengaluru along with his wife and three-month-old child for a job interview. The couple stayed there together for a couple of days. He had spoken to his mother over the phone on September 15 and everything seemed fine till then.

However, on September 18, Firdous and her daughter returned to her parent’s house at Kaup in Udupi district. She claimed that Sameer deserted her and her child and went with another woman.

On September 20, Sameer’s father lodged a missing complaint with jurisdictional Bajpe police station. The cops then had expressed suspicion about the version of Firdous.

The missing case took a new turn when Sameer’s dead body was found under the limits of Devadanapatti police station in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district on September 23.

Wife is prime suspect

It is suspected that Sameer's wife Firdous has an extra marital affair with a person named Asif from Karkala, who was working as a driver in Bengaluru. The two are absconding since the recovery of Sameer’s body.

According to Bajpe police inspector Parashivamurthy, the enquiry into the murder case will be conducted by the Devadanapatti police station and that the local police will extend complete support.

The post-mortem of Sameer's body was conducted in Tamil Nadu. The body was transported to his hometown through an ambulance.

Inn Lillahi Wa Inn Elahi Rajiyoon,

Since the Culprits belong to one community - must be punished as per Isalamic Sharia in public. So no one dare to commit such crime again.

Then only all can lead a peace full life.

The Karnataka BJP, which faced action on Twitter earlier this month over incendiary tweets, this time has passed the blame of Sangh Parivar sponsored Delhi violence to the victims.

In an insensitive tweet on Friday, it dubbed the protests against the notorious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as "fake" and added that the violence that followed was "the most well-planned assault on the Idea of India," in an apparent attempt to portray the victims as villains.

The handle, notorious for tweets targeting Muslims, blamed the clashes that erupted in Delhi between people demonstrating for and against the CAA on "so called 'Peacefuls'" - a known right-wing slur for Muslims.

Many people on social media called out the tweet for misleading people and covering up the role of Delhi BJP leader Kapil Mishra's provocative speech for triggering the violence or the failure of the Delhi Police, which reports to the former BJP chief and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in controlling the riots.

Earlier this month, the Karnataka BJP had tweeted a video of Muslim women standing in queue to vote in the Delhi elections, showing their voter ID cards, with the snarky caption: "Keep the documents safe, you will need to show them again during NPR (National Population Register) exercise."

Soon after, the party unit's Twitter handle was blocked by the social media platform for 24 hours after many accused it of encouraging Islamophobia.

NPR has been widely criticised by opposition parties as a precursor to the government's planned NRC or National Register of Citizens which intends to make Indians prove their citizenship with documents that many poor or illiterate do not possess.

Many fear that combined with the already imposed CAA - which promises citizenship to only non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh - the NRC can be used to make millions of Muslims stateless.

The government has denied the allegation and said the CAA only intends to help those who have faced religious persecution. In recent weeks, it has gone back on its rhetoric on the NRC which was announced by Amit Shah in parliament as "it will certainly happen".

The CAA, which was cleared by parliament in December, has triggered deadly protests in the country which left at least 25 dead till Sunday. Since then, at least 42 more people have been killed as large-scale violence erupted in northeast Delhi and hundreds of homes and shops have been burned to the ground.

Bhopal, Mar 10: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Tuesday parried questions on the exact number of MLAs supporting the party in Madhya Pradesh amid a political crisis triggered by the resignation of Jyotiraditya Scindia and 14 MLAs loyal to him.

Repeating his allegation that the BJP was trying to destabilise the Congress-led government, Singh told reporters that the BJP had arranged three chartered planes for Bengaluru on Monday to fly out some MLAs loyal to Scindia.

"We want to know why Bengaluru is used every time to destabilise governments?" he questioned.

When asked about the number of MLAs supporting the Congress in the current political scenario, Singh only said, "Just wait".

He said an atmosphere of uneasiness has been prevailing in the BJP since the Kamal Nath government started cracking a whip on various mafias.

"We (the state government) are exposing Vyapam scam, e-tendering scam, Madhyam scam. In the honey-trap case, BJP men were found to be involved. This will be exposed," he said.

The political crisis in Madhya Pradesh precipitated with the resignation of Jyotiraditya Scindia over his apparent marginalisation in the state politics. Following Scindia's suit, 14 legislators loyal to him have sent their resignation letters via e-mail to Madhya Pradesh Raj Bhavan.

Scindia was subsequently expelled from the Congress by party president Sonia Gandhi.

Speculation that the Guna royal might join the BJP gained ground after he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi this morning.
