Mangaluru, Oct 5: An 18-year-old girl who had been suffering from multiple ailments for nearly one decade due to endosulfan poisoning, breathed her last yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Divya G, a resident of Padubettu near Nelyadi, in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

Divya’s father Vaman Naik is a daily wage labourer, and mother Pushpavathi is a beedi roller.

In spite of her illness Divya had continued to pursue education and had appeared for PU I examinations. She was given physiotherapy, treatment and education support at the Endosulfan Day Care Centre in Kokkada.

However, recently Divya’s ailments had worsened. According to her uncle Sudhakara, the girl breathed her last around 1.20am. “We would carry her to the day care centre, where she was given treatment, physiotherapy and support for her education. She was academically brilliant too,” he said.

The cause of death is said to be renal failure. There are thousands of endosulfan victims in coastal districts of Karnataka and most of them are in Belthangady taluk.

Many developing and developed countries already banned endosulphan and supported the ban in UN. But India (feku's direction) opposed the ban.

Dubai, May 9: A flight scheduled to bring back Kannadigas, especially Mangalureans stranded in Dubai on May 14 has been rescheduled to May 12.

The flight will take off from Dubai at 4.10 pm UAE time and reach Mangaluru International Airport at 9.10 pm IST on May 12, announced Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda in a tweet.

The flight was earlier scheduled for May 12 and then it was postponed to May 14. Now, it has been rescheduled to May 12.

It is said that constant persuasion from NRIs in UAE led to advance the paid evacuation drive.

In fact, Karnataka was missing in the list of states to receive special flights when Ministry of External Affairs arranged them to bring stranded Indians at UAE. Special flights were arranged only to Kerala and Tamil Nadu people stranded at UAE in the first stage.

Thanks to Karnataka NRI Forum of UAE which opened helpline to seek assistance to Kannadigas, nearly 2000 Kannadigas have registered for assistance in which 127 pregnant women, 27 senior citizens, 700 people who have lost jobs aftermath of coronavirus sought assistance from NRI forum.

In the first flight, priority will be given to people with medical emergency and pregnant women. Once the passengers reach Mangaluru, they will be quarantined in their home districts.

Assan, Feb 9: Coming down heavily on Amit Shah, JDS supremo HD Deve Gowda said that the Union Home Minister is dreaming of a Hindu nation. Addressing the crowd at an anti-CAA/NRC rally in Hassan, he said that the Home Minister has forgotten that India is a secular, multi-lingual country.

“Shah cannot make India into a Hindu nation. People should come forward and oppose the Acts in the interest of peace and welfare of the nation,” the former PM said, urging secular leaders to unite and fight against the undemocratic policies put forth by the Centre.

“Only secular forces can protect minorities by taking to the streets,” he said. Talking about the controversy around former Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde’s statements, Gowda said BJP leaders are airing anti-national comments, which is disturbing peace. “Muslims, Christians and Hindus should unite to fight against the BJP’s unilateral decisions.”
